We all must have fights we will never or refuse to watch for our own reasons. As fight fans, I’m sure we have allowed our bias to control us at one point or another. I’m sure some would deny it, but it’s inevitable. That’s where my selection comes in.
For me, the number one fight that comes to mind is actually not a highly recognized one like say a title fight. It is Chuck Liddell vs. Keith Jardine. I have never seen it, and I never will. I started watching MMA because of Chuck Liddell around 2005, (TUF noob if you will) and have been hooked ever since. His horrible fall was a hard one to watch, and I made excuses along the way. Looking back, I realize he started to lose a step after his rubber match win against Randy, but it wasn’t so clear to me at the time. (Bias still going strong suggesting he lost a step rather than just being bested)
Chuck vs. Babalu 2 - Sure, he got clipped a bit early, but he recovered fast and made Babalu pay in under 2 minutes! That’s what you get when you rush a counter striker like Chuck.
Chuck vs. Tito 2 - Sure, Chuck was a little sloppy and got tagged a lot, but that’s because he had zero respect for Tito’s striking. He walked through everything and finished him in the end…
Chuck vs. Rampage 2 - alright, he got caught.. not a lot happened and he went for an ill advised body shot. Rampage caught him and that’s it. Chuck won’t do the same in a third fight, let’s see it!
Chuck vs. Jardine - Easy tune up fight, I’m busy that night though so I’ll catch it later. “Chuck is susceptible to leg kicks though and Jardine dishes them out well.” No. Chuck isn’t getting beat by Keith Jardine. Only a hater would pick Jardine. (I remember posting this on a different forum) … Chuck drops a split. Those leg kicks really took their toll after all I guess. I was wrong. Well, not watching that one..
That fight sucked by default. I will never watch it. Jardine was a spoiler on Chuck’s comeback and it led to one of the greatest UFC declines we have seen from a top fighter. Yikes. At least I got to see Chuck beat Silva before his chin completely digressed.
Anyways, long rant over. Just wanted to put a lot of context into what fight fits the bill for me, but what about you sherbros? What is a fight you will never/refuse to watch if there are any? Or is that petty to you, and you will always gladly watch all despite the victor because you are a “true” fight fan?
