Skullgirls is a fucking blast. Dam son.
Good stuff. Making the mechanics universal is a great thing Imo. SFV suffered from a difficult to balance V-System. Some were so good that it auto pushed characters to a higher tier. With this, it seems to be moving to an easier to balance footsie game.
Now, this could all take a shit if certain drives start allowing 1 characters offense to out shine another. For instance, in this clip, Ryu whiff punishes a Chun normal with a Drive ability. Will others function in the same way, the same frames, distance etc? Hard to tell. It could be pretty diverse, but even so, it’ll be so much easier to balance than the V-System.
Another takeaway I like from this gif is the half screen punish on the normal. It’s like Capcom watched so many critical art punches they decided to add it in for everyone as a regular move. I dig it.
I’m starting to get hyped the more I think about it. On a side note, there were fun times beating OP characters in SFV. Let’s you know you outplayed them.
The leak mentioned an Italian female wrestler and the Gief. Jamie and The African American girl were in the trailer so this could be legit.
Edit: Forbidden. Different link.

Every game has a mechanic that separates characters. Good focus attack usually meant a character was better, or better fadc options, or best redfadc. I’m third strike the top tier all had better punishes after parry and v had better v triggers. There are other things that defined character strength but having stronger core mechanics is always the issue, and whoever has the strongest core mechanics of options is going to be top tier in 6.
lastly there wasn’t anything in sfv that was fun, if you beat a top tier character it just meant you guessed right or they guessed wrong in the oki
edit this is just sfv 5 2.0 so idk why I’m even discussing this. Another shit game from capcom
They look identical with the hit boxes shown lmao, they’ve changed some animations but everything looks like close proximity like sfv. I was right about the previous edition and this looks like more of the same. Btw the neutral game is literally the most important aspect of how the game feels. That’s why 3rd strike and 4 were totally different but still good. When you make everyone nubby it dumbs down zoning/neutral. That’s why sfv had high high risk/high reward gameplay that was redundant as hell. It was Rock Paper Scissors oki and awful neutral. Nobody likes that game. I’m glad you did, but 5 alienated an entire player base. 4 was loved and hated but at least people stuck around for it, 5 completely gutted the community. This looks like more of the same and when it sucks you won’t refer to this post. People like to pretend capcom knows what the fuck they’re doing anymore and they don’t.Different strokes for different folks my man. I had a great time playing the game and I got pretty decent at it. Met some new friends, made it out of pools at EVO, played on some cool CA tournaments. It wasn’t the best game, but it brought some fun memories.
Sure, character specific move sets are a main driver, but added onto the insane V-System, it brought the game to a whole other level of balance difficulty. There was just too much to juggle. It was too unique to each character and it become somewhat of a bloated system. Not having to worry about several different mechanics per character is going to up the game as it leaves more time to focus on the character traits.
Jumping to conclusions about the game for no apparent reason other than how it looks is ridiculous. It’s a completely different game than SFV. They don’t look the same, the battle system is completely overhauled and we only got small clips of in-game play. I’d save the judgement until more details are released. Sounds a bit like an r/kappa take.
i thought 4 was really hated in the begining? They look identical with the hit boxes shown lmao, they’ve changed some animations but everything looks like close proximity like sfv. Nah it got arcade releases and was really fun. People just enjoyed a new game even with all its warts. Once people realized ryu/sagat/aluma/Seth were only viable super came out and charge characters shook it up.i thought 4 was really hated in the begining?

It wasn’t a fan favorite but in later seasons it players started coming around. You had those like Sanford who were always vocal critics but also people like Jwong who ranked it high on his FG tier list. Trust me though, I hated the 50/50s and I still have nightmares but there were definitely some footsies in the game. It wasn’t all 50/50s. Whiff punishing was an incredibly important aspect.
Maybe you have better eyes than I do but I didn’t see many similarities. Looking at 10 second clips and determining this is SFV 2.0 is a bit much. Personally, I think Capcom has a good chance for a strong showing here. After all, it’s a new team with new leadership considering Ono got the can.
I fucking love street fighter 4Nah it got arcade releases and was really fun. People just enjoyed a new game even with all its warts. Once people realized ryu/sagat/aluma/Seth were only viable super came out and charge characters shook it up.
You’re right about whiff punishing, but it was very linear play compared to 3rd strike and 4. Even with CC and the like it was borderline sleep inducing. It was playskool street fighter. The footsies weren’t that advanced. The hurt/hit boxes were mostly stubby.
i keep watching the videos and I can’t see anything different. This game is gonna be released just like the trailer. Beyond disappointed.
