Fighters Strategically Moving up Weight Classes

You were thinking third time would be the charm wirh DC vs Jones? He's been decisioned, he's been stopped, but he's the man to do it?

Maybe you should listen to what Jones himself said on facing DC at HW. If you did then you wouldn't ask me if third time's a charm.

In this year alone we saw JJ move up to HW as soon as DC retired, and Israel moving up to LHW as soon as KHAMZAT got his 3rd UFC win, cementing his threat to both WW and MW titles.

Other than Jones ducking HW DC and Israel avoiding KHAMZAT, are there examples you've seen of fighters "coincidentally" changing weight classes as soon as there's a new threat? (Or in Jones' case as soon as his biggest threat retired?)
Lol

Couture moved up to HW when Tim Sylvia KO Arlovski.
GSP moving up to MW against Bisping

Those two both came out of semi-retirements though, neither were active fighters. Bit different than what TS is referring to. Although TS is out to lunch with his muslim fighter worship as usual.

McGregor moved up to Lightweight instead of fighting Aldo, Edgar, and Holloway.

GDR went to Bantamweight to avoid Cyborg.

Can't think of any others under such specific parameters.

McGregor had already fought and defeated two of the three people you listed before moving up to LW.

GDR dropping her belt like a hot potato and running for her life back to the WBW division is a great example though.

I don’t like Jon Jones, but the guy isn’t afraid of anyone. Dude had some wars and LHW and had a couple close calls, but has done enough to prove his place as the greatest LHW of all time. He is moving up to challenge himself and lock down his legacy.

Jones could literally kill DC at any weight. Izzy being scared of someone with 1 win at MW is just idiotic.

Khabib not even testing the waters at 170 is quite a pussy move imo.

Considering Khabib missed weight umpteen times, this quote is more accurate.

Also I like Khamzat but he's tailor made for Israel and he's 2 or 3 fights away from any belt. Bit of luck we get Khamzat v Usman by the end of the year.

So by your logic Khabib retired before rematching Conor?

Thanks for confirming.

Why would he fear a fatter version of a guy he beat twice?

Trying to think of 1 but just keep having names pop in head who dropped a weight class looking for easier fights.
Jones said it himself that DC at HW would be harder to beat than at LHW

The "lets make up reasons why guys moved weight classes" thread

should be alot of creative writing in here

Anderson fighting greats like Irvin, Forrest and Bonnar while showing no interest in fighting Jones or Shogun

Would make a little more sense to me if Izzys duck was Jones, and Jones's duck was a potential rematch with Cruz... However I don't believe those either.

Do you think both Izzy and Jones' moves were just coincidentally right after DC retired and coincidentally right after KHAMZAT was considered to be the real deal & called Izzy out?

Maybe one of the two moves could be a coincidence but not both, no way.
