Fighters pulling out/UFC 206 in NYC

...that's... not how taxes work, but ok.
I'm not from the U.S but I read when the bill was introduced that there would be a higher tax % for holding MMA events there than other states, 8.5% when most other states are like 3%.

Oh, the event promoter, perhaps. I read that as to be discussing fighters on the card. If they're being taxed any state taxes, it would be through Nevada.

Exactly, promoters would be less likely to fork out bigger paydays to guys who don't have it in their contracts due to the fact they'd be spending more for the event than most others.

wouldnt they pay the state tax they live in?

(im not familiar with working out of state, and its an honest Q, before some clown quotes me with an insulting response)

Random thought: will UFC 209 be held in Stockton?

i dont think that matters.

if the UFC is paying out a fight bonus, the event taxes would be a static number, regardless, if i understand you correctly... if there is a 50K performance bonus, it doesnt cost the UFC more to give it to Conor than Pfister.

im guessing they dont care 1 bit about paying the higher tax in exchange for promoting in NY.

This isn't what I mean, let's say a champion has 150/150 in their contract, then the UFC will be less likely to give them a back end bonus due to the costs they've already spent to promote the event and the 8.5% tax, although I could be wrong.

It's the state you live in. Not sure how they work it for internationals.

Which guys? 99% of UFC fighters dont get any profit sharing so why would they care

The more money that a card brings, can easily add to the non-disclosed bonuses a fighter receives.
Plus the media exposure NYC brings, helps a fighters bottom line

A lot of money? Won't NYC tax the shit out of them?
Indeed. It's only monumental because of the location. MMA finally legalized in NY. I don't expect them to have many shows in NY. Maybe once a year. They'll continue to do more shows in their regular places like Las vegas, other various cities in California, texas, Florida etc. Unless they do a fight night show in Albany or something like that.

if someone was caught faking an injury for something like this they can kiss their career goodbye basically. way too risky.

arent the bonuses stipulated?

im under the impression that POTN bonuses are a given- they give them out each show and they are always the same amount, so the fighter's contractual earnings dont ultimately matter...

There are a few things in play.
What a fighter is contracted for is not always what AC reported pay is.
Zuffa is known to give bonuses (not FOTN ones) to fighters on bigger cards!

This card is gonna be a dud, watch.

Probably will be headlined by Frank Mir by the time all the injuries hit.

Re: Bonuses

TAP: Recently, Danny Castillo told us that he gets a "locker room bonus" after every fight, win or lose. Do you find that to be the case, as well?

Krause: Yeah, I've gotten one after just about every fight, except for the Sam Stout fight (he won submission of the night and fight of the night bonuses). In the presser, Dana said that he was going to take care of me, since I didn't get one of the performance bonuses, so we'll see what that looks like. I definitely don't want to sound like I'm complaining. I don't expect them, but they're always nice. It's great anytime you get an unexpected check in the mail.

So it only makes sense that on a bigger event with more profit, that Zuffa would give more generosity!

Because, it makes sense.
It is easier to be generous when more money is made.
On a 125k Might Mouse PPV, it makes less sense to do than on a bigger event!

Unfortunately human greed outweighs a lot of things that "make sense" on this planet. Some humans dine on $100/ ounce caviar while others literally starve to death not far away

Here:
UFC president Dana White explained to a group of reporters following this week’s UFC 130 pre-fight press conference (transcribed by MMA Junkie).

“First of all, sometimes an event becomes bigger than we anticipated it to be. Sometimes there's more money involved than we budgeted or thought could happen. What do we do? We share with them. We're not going to go, 'Hey, listen. That's your deal, buddy. You signed that deal. I don't care how big this event was,' even though that's our right to do so.
