Fighters at their absolute peak.

Fedor when he fought Hendo. Rua in the first Forrest fight. Cro cop against Gonzaga. Wand against Lidell.
Brock when he fought Cain. Forrest when he fought Silva, Jones when he fought Reyes, Izzy when he fought Strickland

I thought Rich was going to beat him too lol oh well only if Rich knew how to defend clinches....like literally both fights.

Giblert looked like as legit as they come....but then steep decline and pissing hot...

JZ actually looked like he was going to be really good too but then....it just fizzled out I guess

I was excited for Rich v Silva 1. I thought it was 50/50 and the 1st real test for Rich... was it ever!

MW was very interesting at the time. People say it was shallow and it was slightly looking at UFC only but in general it was good. The fighters were just scattered.

Just 1 year prior to Silva winning the UFC belt Pride had the first undisputed unification super fight. Hendo v Bustamante.

People forget/don't know that Bustamante left UFC with the MW belt and signed with Pride (I'm gonna make a thread about this lol)

Bustamante and Hendo were perennial #1 & 2 then they each lost to so so comp. Bustamante sort of fizzled out shortly after.

That was around the time Rich became Champ and Hendo v Rich was the super fight everyone wanted until Silva destroyed him.

We later got the Silva v Hendo super fight and then Hendo v Rich super fight

They never should have had him fight Islam a second time on short notice where he admitted to drinking alcohol leading up to that fight. He got KO'ed from the head kick from the champ a weight class above and that certainly made it easier for his lights to get shut out in his fight against Topuria.

Now UFC might be making the same mistake again and putting him back in there with Topuria, a power puncher, yet again.

I am not surprised though as they have to cash in on the Topuria/Volk rematch PPV main event now. If Volk were to lose a supposed tune up fight, they would lose the opportunity ($$$$) to ever run a big Volk/Topuria fight again, and they would love to do it in Australia if they could.

It just sucks because Volk really needs a tune up right now. Someone he can beat and regain his confidence back without taking damage

well if he dies, he dies

...

or I guess that might be what they are thinking

to be honest volk should have never taken that fight so quick against someone like Topuria. He really did look like he was fighting scared like epo-snake said, though hate to agree with him.

He had a year off, almost, so hopefully it works out for him better. Thing is, he got that dawg in him and he's getting older, so it might be good to not to take too much of a break too, so there's that.

I think it might be enough to rest it up if it's possible, and it might be that if that chin's shot, it's not going to change nothing by waiting any longer...

it's def hard to come back from back to back losses like that, esp against someone like topuria....and he's 36 fighting at fw too....but if someone can, it's volk.

it seems like volk is too stubborn which leads to his downfall, he genuinely thought he could beat islam on 10 days notice, and that making a 3 month turnaround against the most powerful guy in his division(Ilia) wouldn't be a bad choice. He should fight someone like sterling or evloev next but he thinks he can beat Ilia so he's gonna rush into a rematch and get ko'd again unfortunately

sometimes, you gotta have someone else look out for you because when everything's going well, that's fine, but when it's not, it can be hard to know when to take a step back...

Not sure if this has been said yet....but Pride Shogun was much better then UFC version. He was never the same after the arm break. Pre Arm Break Shogun was on track to be a GOAT.

he was, but that machida fight might have been that proverbial one great fight left.

Fedor when he fought Dan Henderson.

That was two fighters in their primes.

Bustamante was pretty good, he doesn't get the hespect he deserves around here.

I had Rich over Anderson but yeah I was definitely wrong about that lol

I might have had Hendo over him too, but oh boy Anderson looked amazing in that fight.

Rich was really solid too, I think Rich lost momentum too in that fight because there was some stoppage in the third round when he fought, it's been a long time but that's how i remember it, he held his own against pretty much everyone other than Anderson. And Machida I guess.

Maybe there's more but I can't remember lol.

Yes. Super close fights w Rampage and Hendo, and he's a natural MW.

Is that you TJ? How is epo nowadays?

Chris Holdsworth too, don't forget.

Is something I said untrue? I think your hate for a man you've never met is overpowering your critical thinking skills.

Tj is a snake but it isnt because of PEDs.

I don't hate him. Some actions are detestable, and it's just that that's what did.
