So just learned that daft ear mocking thing Messi did was in honor of fellow countryman Riquelme because Van Gaal didn't rate him and had the audacity to drop him from Barcelona.

WTF? Either you or whoever you got this from wildly misunderstood the details.

Riquelme popularized that celebration in the early 2000s when he used it "against" Boca's executives who had previously criticized him during contract negotiations. Since then, it's been used by lots of South Americans against all kinds of opposing coaches, fans, journalists, etc. It basically means "Let me hear you talk your shit now!"

Messi used it towards Van Gaal because he had criticized him in the days prior.

Since then, it's been pointed out that lots of South American players have had trouble with Van Gaal over the years. Riquelme, Di Maria, Falcao, Rivaldo all had issues with him.

I don't watch soccer but that missed kick is making the rounds on all of the news sources. How does a professional player miss the goal completely on a penalty kick? I've seen compilations of kicks that missed the net completely on wide open opportunities.

It's not just kicking it in goal, you're trying to kick it really hard and really out of reach of the 6'6" goalie.

Sounds like Van Gaal is just a no-nonsense coach who doesn't believe in pandering to the egos of divas.

So even Boca Juniors were getting sick of Riquelme lol, that says it all really.

“Hey regular soccer watchers, here’s some stats i read on twitter!”
“Messi is evil!”
“Akshulllly Southgate is really good”

Uruguays my team so I've always resented everyone fawning over Messi when portraying Suarez(one of the greatest players ever) as a vampire.

People don't have to like an athlete or sports figure you know. You don't have to like Suarez some of us don't have to like Messi.

I find Suarez much more likable than Messi tbh.

People hated him for the handball against Ghana but I actually saw itas honorable to sacrifice yourself in order to give your team a shot of progressing.
Not his fault Ghana blew the penalty and the penalty shootout.

Di Maria is a pussio and Falcao was injured and couldn’t adjust with the physicality of the premier league

LVGenius wos rite. Fuck Messi for going after an upstanding man who heroically lead a team while dealing with cancer and fuck Ronaldo as well, enjoy playing on some shitty Arab team that nobody cares about

Moroccos defensive enthusiasm inshallah football will save us

Yup it wasn't a robbery it was a trade. Suarez traded a 100% goal for an 80% goal and a suspension if the 20% worked out. Uruguay lost in the SF 3-2. It was a sacrifice to get Uruguay to its first semis in 40 years that Suarez and Uruguay payed dearly for. I don't understand why people hate on this. Suarez didn't "get away" with anything everything that happened was consistant with the rules.

What Maradona(who I like as a human being) did to England was way worse. He punched a ball in the net got a goal, and didn't get carded. Those next 2 games were legacy defining for him and they might never have happened if not for the handball.
