these elimination tournament games should be settled by continuous overtime where the next goal wins. who gives a shit how much longer it would take, at least they would win it as a team, instead of just a couple guys taking unopposed free shots at the net at penalty kick range. just let them play it out. these penalty kicks are bullshit.

im not a fan of that. even though ive been a fan of argentina since day one of the tournament. i forgive them for losing to the saudi's but i will never forget. that was the first ever soccer match ive ever sat down and watched lol and they blew it. but im back on the argentina wagon again.

kinda sucks watching the netherlands go out like that. my boy Denzel Dumfries had it going on again.

Back in the day they just replayed the game or did a coinflip. Italy v Yugoslavia in Euros being the prime example. I don't think players would ever go for continious OT. The Penalty forces a winner and it creates drama.

Also people love to play penalty shotout at the soccer fields with their friends, I've done it a bunch. It's simple and it just requires 2 people opposed to 21. Penalty shootouts are fun and popular unless it's your team participating in them.

Penalty rewards the team with the better goalie and the more skilled goalscorers. In a game where goals are scarce and the lesser team can easily luck their way into a 1-1 victory it makes it more likely the better team will advance.

They broke Argentina 4 years ago. Anyway, they have to be one of the most mentally resilient team i’ve seen under Dalic. They’re going through 120 minutes every game against big teams like the 2018 runs without breaking a single sweat and still have a perfect Subasic replacement tailored for penalties.

lastly i dont know much about soccer, but is it legal in those shootouts to move in on the ball and pretend like youre going to kick the ball at full force but then slow down to a crawl just to try to get the goalie to dive one way, and then kick it at the empty side?

You can stop and restart running, but you can't feint. Once you do the kick.motion, your shoot is shot.

If you feint the kick the goal is voided and you get a yellow card.
