Fictional detective Hercule Poirot

Don't French and Belgians have similarities ? Which is why a lot of people that Van Damme was a Frenchie before explaining he was Belgian.

It's like saying that Canadians are similar to Americans. It's sort of true, but you'll get roasted immediately if you dare say that in the presence of French or Belgian people.

Anyone into the modern Sherlock?

Went to one of the locations it was filmed at in Bristol, shits cool as fuck imo.

They both speak the Language of Love or Surrender if you are trolling.

I always found it odd how everybody in town knows who the top cop (or in this case, detective) is.

Kinda like in Tango and Cash.

Both dudes were making headlines and everybody knew who they were.

Police chief, sure.

Detective(s)?

No fucking clue.

Watched the new Death On The Nile when it was in theaters, was kinda surprised at how much I loved it
Thats the only thing I know about the character, though

What do you guys think of him?

I'm a sucker for genius detective shows... Sherlock Holmes and Adrian Monk are my two favorites.

But I never got into Poirot just based on his description. He seemed like a snobbier version of Sherlock Holmes, but French.

But now I'm 2 episodes into the ABC murders (free if you have prime video) and I'm starting to like him. Or at least the version that John malkovich is playing.
This guy played him brilliantly.

For all you nerds pointing out that he's not French, I was merely explaining why I was never interested in him before, because he SEEMED like a French snobby Sherlock.

Seemed French. From the commercials. I hadn't watched the show yet so I wouldn't know that he's Belgian.

This is the greatest imo. A fantastic performance, absolutely loveable character.
Always helps to have an actor who set out specifically to play that character and had a deep love for the character hoping to perform it in a way that did it credit. He was a perfect choice for it and near impossible to dislike.

Only ever heard of him in "Chasing Amy".

Have you seen the video of how he developed the voice?

The attention to detail that Suchet maintains throughout the series is amazing. He became the exact character that is described in the books. Agatha Christie created Poirot with an amalgamation of traits she disliked, possibly to annoy some people she knew who had those traits, but it is what endears him to the readers. The movies didn't really portray that very well. One of the reasons I like series more than movies is because they allow for better character development.

There have been many actors that defined a role. Often, the first actor you see playing the part defines the character, like Sean Connery playing James Bond. So often, reading the books a role is based on prior to seeing a movie based on the book ruins the movie as you know the outcome but also, the characters never seem to match the ones in the book. Actors are often chosen for a role because of their fame not so much because they fit the character. I had been disappointed with Albert Finney's portrail of Poirot in the 1974 movie Murder on the Orient Express and never found others actors as being credible in the role until I saw Suchet on PBS.

Those of us telling you he's Belgian are doing it because Poirot was constantly correcting people who assumed he was French because of his accent. It is one of the basic traits of the character.

Well Poirot himself was little angry if someone said he is French. The series is really fine, really watchable, i have seen all episodes.
