It sounds silly on its face so I read the article. Eh? I'm not offended. She agrees with some of the posts in this thread that OnlyFans is bad but also condemns men for driving the demand. I don't feel any type of way about her opinion other than that I think she's divesting Lily of the agency she's exercising.

As far as I'm aware Lily is making her own choices so unless there's coercion of some sort she bears the brunt of the responsibility here. Julie seems to be saying she's being exploited by a rapacious industry and the men involved should be held responsible for the harm she endures. There's definitely truth to that but I reach a different conclusion about Lily's participation based on the limited knowledge I have.

The whole conversation around onlyfans is so funny. We're supposed to feel sorry for these women for being exploited. OK, maybe some are. But so are the guys paying for Onlyfans. They aren't just paying for porn, they're paying for that veneer of personal engagement. That's exploitative as fuck especially given a lot of these women are farming out the engagement to someone else.

But as usual, we're only supposed to feel bad for the woman even though she's the one getting paid.

Although to be honest you could argue the entire celebrity system has been partly built on this, I think its notable for example that the music industry is now much more focused on live shows for its income because fans want more of a personal connection not to mention the endless reality shows.

I think the truth is you can't throw around blanket views about the "adult" industry, it definitely seems to have some scummy aspects to it which exploit vulnerable people and people end up doing sex work because they can't pay the bills any other way is highly questionable BUT I'm guessing there are also plenty involved who either don't really have a problem with it or actively like it with there biggest problem likely being society trying to shame them for it.

Honestly my view tends to be that a lot of "liberals" are really not much different from conservatives, they both love to further the idea of female sexual shame to the max. You can be critical of that but also acknowledge that a lot of neo "free love" types are just using it to exploit women.
