Yeah which is 100% typical of shitty lawsuits.

Unfortunately our press has become so degraded that even allegations in a lawsuit are publicized, and through that publicity given the veneer of legitimacy, such that the accused side is presented as needing to *defend* itself.

Here it’s even worse because you didn’t have the most sensational allegations in the lawsuit itself. The lawyers didn’t incorporate that all into the actual complaint, almost certainly because they did some research and didn’t find any substantiation, and their client didn’t have firsthand knowledge.

Yet the press reported on the allegations made by the plaintiff *outside* the complaint, even though she had no firsthand knowledge for them.

A shameful debacle, not only in this instance, but because it illustrates how useless and deceptive mass media has become.

At least the AP cleared it up, so all is not lost, but that’s the kind of basic reporting diligence that should be done BEFORE publishing this kind of thing and making huge speeches. I think partly because social media is so fast the news orgs don’t even bother with that anymore, they’ve got to grab viewers In their target audience ASAP at all costs.
