Feels bad for Stipe.

Randy became HW champ at 43 and was the best version of himself. Jones used his complex striking and distance techniques to fluster Stipe. Its not an age thing. Dude looked younger than he did before.

Hahaha.

Nah, I'm Croatian but even I don't have much sympathy for Stipe.

Sure he's a decent enough guy and I don't have much bad to say about him, but his nonschalant attitude towards everything made it very difficult for me to get behind him. I mean you're fighting Jon Jones in the biggest legacy fight in MMA, and you're still working at the fucken fire station and going into it with a "whatever happens" attitude.

I know some people will find all that common working man shit admirable, but I got to the point where I was like "dude, if you don't give a fuck about greatness and being the best, then get out of the way and let someone else have a shit at it.".

Anyway, all my worst fears about him came true in the Jones fight, he just came in there to collect a paycheck. No urgency, no plan B, just stand at range and get picked apart and eventually finished.

For me he retired after the second Ngannou fight.

I think he stays a fireman because of the benefits, he's thinking long term. I don't think its because he doesn't care, its because he doesn't want to put all his eggs in one basket. Not saying I agree with it, though.

He looked stiff in this fight, definitely showed his age and lack of action.

Fair enough and I can respect that. My point is just that it tells me he doesn’t believe in himself enough to go all in on MMA.

I’m sure he could have told his fire department look guys I’m gonna need two years off to put my everything into this, I’m sure with his status his job would be waiting for him anytime he wanted to return.

The worst part is he's being shit on to enhance the Jon vs Aspinall narrative.

People saying he only showed up for a payday and stuff like that, it's just disrespectful.

He looked to be in great shape, he still had that classic poker face and durability, imagine your last two fights were Ngannou and Jon freaking Jones and people act like you suck because you lost to them.
Quoted for truth. There is no evidence from what we know that Stipe didn't want the fight. Quite the opposite, in the rampage podcast, he said he want the JJ fight more than anything... That he doesn't care about anything, he just wants JJ. What really hurt was taking away the legitimate moment he had by ppl thinking he shouldn't even be there, by Aspinall saying JJ is fighting Joe Biden, etc... as a former goat and someone that was already ""bragging"" about weighing more than JJ, how is he gonna feel when all these new trend fans start saying Stipe shouldn't even be fighting, and the attention was all Aspinall, and not JJ vs Stipe even tho the fight was booked? You even had ppl in interviews, from British channels, asking Stipe what he thinks about ppl saying Aspinall should be the one fighting, not him...? From what he said before the JJ fight, he wanted that badly. He even said that JJ getting injured before their initial schedule felt like a kick in the balls to him... The disrespect came from the crowd not even cheering him as legitimate and the focus being in Aspinall... Like, fans think the fight needs to happen exactly when they want. That was how he was disrespected imo.

I don’t feel bad for a multimillionaire who’s also a 40+ year old who got ktfo in his last fight years ago and yet decided to take on a beast of a fighter after years of inactivity. For anyone who knows a bit about sports and specially combat sports, you know you ain’t got it in your 40s anymore. He just went in there for one last big paycheck.

It looked almost like Jake vs Mike. I would like to say that I feel bad for the fools who paid 700+ bucks for that shit event but I don’t.

Exactly, I agree 100%

I love how people always want to point out DC's eye poke but never mention in that same fight Stipe stuck his thumb in DC's eyes.

Exactly, I agree 100%
Yes... And quite frankly, that the truth. Ppl initially would barely say how JJ conveniently chose the best opponent in the division, few ppl would say that Sergei should present more challenge, but they weren't even sure if that because they knew that Stipe was only 4 years older than JJ, and that JJ has also been ring dusty almost as much as Stipe and that Stipe has fought his whole career in HW while that would be JJ's second HW fight. So they always recognized Stipe as legit, even though he might not be on his best, they knew that Stipe was as tough as nails and that Stipe even said he'd train as hard as he could because that would be one of the biggest chances of his life --- he openly said "I love that I will be facing JJ... I know I will be the one to defeat him"... According to his coaches, he trained as serious as when he would have big fights like the first fight against Ngannou... And that will, knowing the impact JJ has, isnt going to take much from Stipe when he isn't 50 yo and the fact he wasn't in a fight since the brutal loss to Ngannou, is actually helpful because, as many fighters say, time out of the cage helps a lot... And Miocic trained very hard, he said he swore to his wife he wouldn't commit the same mistake of thinking being lighter than normal would be best vs Ngannou, which to him made him less resilient to the punches and his punches packed less power, and so he said he would be as heavy and thick as he could... A big preparation as Stipe did, knowing that would be the last and only fight he would be interested in and would make sense to him, would naturally bring one last time even if not prime, a close to prime Miocic.

But JJ was simply better... He is too good... Miocic took a severe punishment of 50 elbows and still remained standing until round 3, which shows how tough he was. He was, in that fight and last moment to shock the world, bringing for the last time, maybe the best version of him, knowing it'd be the last time he'd need that. And that's it. It'd be different if JJ was a no name fighter, and took on old Stipe --- being a no name up comer, JJ wouldn't make a veteran so interested in the fight, it wouldn't bring back that burning passion to perform close to his best. But JJ's name is so big that it would. So much so Miocic is so respectful that he'd even praise Ngannou's clothes in press conference in legit and genuine, ways that would make Ngannou laugh saying "you are just so respectful always". Chael even laughed because calling JJ a bitch was the first time Miocic insulted anyone and the worst insult he ever used was ""only"" "bring it on, bitch". Which shows he was fired up for that opportunity.

But then ppl acting like Aspinall making a meme out of JJ fighting Joe Biden, ppl inventing stuff about him being with CTE, which only happened when Aspinall won the interim champion and ppl wanted JJ to make one more fight, so they tried in all ways to take legitimacy from the fight as hard as they could... So that would sting Miocic, actually. The respect he got with ppl saying he is only there because he wants the money. If anything, the "I'm done, thanks God" may be his frustration with how unfair some fans can be that he is happy he won't fight again with the current social media trend of completely shitting on someone and making the fight a "joke fight" stuff. He wouldn't have to deal with these BS narratives anymore from ppl that completely takes credit from his deserved title shot there. Ppl acting like the disrespect came from JJ picking Stipe, even saying that was another Jake Paul vs Tyson --- are those ppl trolls or just total morons? Comparing a 42 yo with a 58 yo, comparing a 27 fighter vs a 58 one with a 37 yo fighter vs a 42 one... Shows the level of intelligence of fans actually ---- that was the disrespect. Ppl, like always, try to twist it so it always fit their biased narrative.

Dude is one of the greatest heavyweights ever but he has a rough couple of years.

Was openly disrespected in the first Francis fight. Won that, thank God, but that was probably his peak and he started to fall.
Got KOed by DC after an eye poke. I love DC and glad he became champion but had to hurt.
Was swept aside for Brock when he deserved an instant rematch. Thankfully, Cormier vs Brock never happened.
Stipe got his rematch and won. Won the trilogy but dude looked way different and clearly past his prime.
Got brutalized by Francis. You could see his frustration and he kinda knew he was fucked after the first round.
Was once against swept aside for years. He did not deserve an instant rematch but UFC forgot that he existed.
Was basically dragged out of retirement for Jon Jones.
Got brutally KOed and retired.
Did not even get a video package when Carla Fucking whatsherface was given a tribute by the UFC.

I fully believe Prime Stipe would have given Jones a much tougher fight. Seeing him in the cage last fight was painful as I've been following him since the Fabio mauling. . Pity because he is truly a super nice guy, a role model and a hero even outside the cage. Been a rough couple of years but he is still the UFC HW Goat.
No video package if you don't run Dana.

But he also didn't officially announce it.
