yea no doubt that is the main reason. A lot of financial institutions, lawyer offices, etc likely have similar liability reasons.

I only hope the the benefit of having a third party do it, is that they dispose of it in an eco friendly manner. Not sure if that is just optimistic thinking or not. But it would be a huge waste if we were just to collect the paper in bins and then burn it all. It would be hundreds of thousands of pages, if not millions per year, between the employees at just at my two jobs. And that is going on across the country at every hospital, nursing home, health insurance company.

A lot of paper that gets shredded has been stored for 5 tp 7 years for legal reasons. Law firms in Class A office spent may be paying $200 or more per square foot for rent. It is simply impractical to waste space storing hundreds or thousands of boxes of files so instead they either have their own offsite storage facility in a warehouse area or use a 3rd party such as Iron Mountain. Similarly, shredding and disposing of hundreds of thousands of pages is a huge pain and is much easier to outsource.

The Feds have pieced together pages that Cohen sent through his paper shredder. News is reporting that the Feds also obtained more than 700 pages worth of encrypted messages.

Here's my thought: what a fricking noob for not being able to permanently destroy sensitive material on paper. Did this guy, with all his money, just go buy some consumer grade imported paper shredder at Office Depot or some other big box store? Really does sound like it. Ofcourse I am glad he failed at hiding the shredded material but I would think a guy in his position would have bought an industrial duty shredder and or incinerated the stuff. Maybee when the Feds raided the officers , his underlings only had time to send the pages through their office shredder??
