I'll repeat he layed and prayed on Semmy not even a debate which by default will never equal being destroyed. Secondly you're beyond delusional with your Semmy making Francis look like a bar room brawler. Literally fuckin retarded. The problem (imo) is how Fedor lost to them.

He almost got caught by Werdum's armbar once and yet he does the same exact thing again. That time he could not get out because the cage was in the way. It showed that Fedor's fight IQ was not the greatest. That was one of the instances that showed that Fedor was too comfortable in a ring and never trained properly in a cage.

Bigfoot had success against Fedor in every aspect of MMA. He easily avoided his wild haymakers and showed better ground game skills. Sure, TRT Bigfoot had physical advantages but he nullified Fedor's advantages rather easily.

Fedor could have easily won the Hendo's fight if he fought more technically and used his strengths but it was a wild brawl where Hendo outsmarted him on the ground.

Then there are Maldonado, Mitrione and Bader fights where Fedor was just a wild brawler. To be fair, post-prime Fedor had good fights against Monson, Rizzo, Sonnen, etc. But even in the Mir fight he was on a verge of losing.

Its not total lay and pray but yes that is Fedors most conservative fight, probably because it was his Pride debut.

As far as Semmy goes though look at who he lost to and how they beat him, Fedor, Barnett, Nog and Sergei and all of them beat him via grappling. The only time Semmy lost standing in MMA was when Yvel caught him as he was standing back up.

By the time of Pride(rather than his early Pancrase career) as well Semmy wasnt clueless on the ground, he actually subbed Gan McGee for example and had a good defencive guard so I don't think its the case that just anyone can take him down and win, the guys who did were all elite submission fighters.

In a standup contest you'd be nuts to think Semmy wouldnt be a big threat to Ngannou, he'd be a big threat to any MMA fighter ever.

So yeah you can say it was an easier fight for Fedor who played it fairly safe BUT thats only because Fedor was so well rounded. Semmy would be a massive test for a standup specialist, indeed I think he'd likely be close to the top of the division these days given how little dangerous grappling there is.

Big Nog was arguably the best HW (or at least top 3 in the world) until Fedor beat him & Crocop was a feared striker who successfully transitioned to mma in the ring. The UFC versions of these guus were both past their primes, same goes with Shogun, Rampage & Wanderlei. But that's beside the point, which is:

Fedor v Big Nog & Fedor v Crocop are some of the best HW bouts we've seen... assuming that you've actually seen them.

Edit: I agree that Big Nog was essentially a punching bag, but he won HW championships in both Pride & the UFC. Watch his fight against Sapp if human punching bags are your thing.

Itt I'll start at the beginning in hopes of providing some context for those who weren't fortunate enough to experience Fedor's rise to GOAT status in real time. Gonna have to break this OP up into separate posts due to the media limitations per post

Fedor came to Pride at age 25 in 2002 after winning the RINGS absolute tournament and was immediately thrown to the wolves. His first Pride fight was vs Semmy Schilt, a top 6 HW on the planet on a 12-1-1 MMA run (only loss to Josh Barnett) and potentially lethal matchup for any HW in MMA history given Semmy's absurd size and striking credentials. Fedor was the underdog and Fedor destroyed him



Next up was Heath Herring, another world top 10 HW in an eliminator fight for the title shot against Nogueira. Herring was coming off wins over Igor Vovchanchyn and Mark Kerr bookending his loss to Nogueira. Fedor was the underdog and Fedor destroyed him



Next fight for Fedor was Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Big Nog was firmly entrenched as the #1 HW in the world and was any reasonable person's pick as the single greatest HW in MMA history at that point. Fedor was the underdog and... wait for it... Fedor destroyed him in one of the most highly regarded title fight wins in MMA history



Fedor would then go 7-0 with 1 NC (headbutt vs Nog) over his next 8 fights in 16 months. Wins in that time included world top 25 HW Fujita

Personally, for me, this era of MMA was the best.

Because he missed out on so much by not fighting in the UFC? No. When Fedor was champ of Pride it had the best HW division.

By the time Fedor fought Werdurm he had already been on a downhill trajectory. Going off the religious deep-end and fasting during training camps, careful game-planning gone and turning into a sloppy brawler.

Let's not insult eachother's intelligence here and just be real

"Firstly" Fedor handled Schilt and did so with ease

"Secondly" Schilt is arguably the GOAT kickboxer and just so happens to be a very well-versed MMAist. He actually has a ground game. In real terms, prime Semmy vs prime Franc doesn't look good for Ngannou. I struggle to imagine any path to victory for Franc other than the typical "he'll just ktfo his opponent"

I mean, lmao we're talking about a guy (Franc) who got absolutely embarrassed by Stipe Miocic in a fight where Franc couldn't muster much more than a WMMA-tier ground game. Big bad Franc then lost his next fight vs Black Beast in an embarrassing staring contest. These were supposed to be the UFC's most elite heavy-hitters. Lol

Seriously, lol at that. Back to reality: Schilt would jab Franc's face off before knocking him out. It's really not even close, Schilt was better at everything Franc does well other than brute power

I feel like the people who dislike Fedor are more than likely not quality MMA fans. Why you would dislike the guy is beyond me... and if you can't tell why people like him, just stop watching MMA for the sake of most other MMA fans sanity. The guy was absolutely one of a kind.
