Media Fedor Emelianenko Resumé Review

I personally feel like Pride and UFC goats should be separated, primarily for the difference in the rules and setting. I think people don't realize how much a ring versus a cage makes a difference, plus the 10 minute first round. They would often do resets to the center of the ring if the fighters got to the edge of the ring on the ground, which effectively takes out cage wrestling and grappling, which is a huge part of cage MMA like in the UFC or Bellator. Cage cutting and ringe craft are also drastically different in a massive cage vs a small square ring. I actually think this plays a large part in the downfall of Fedor in Strikeforce and the lack of expected success for Cro Cop in the UFC, not so much that they exited their primes.
Fedor is without a doubt the Pride goat and the Pride heavyweight goat, but Stipe is the UFC heavyweight goat. I believe that's how those kinds of things should be sorted out versus arguing who was better when we really have no idea because the rules were so much different.

Just my 2 cents!

Good take, more than likely the objectively correct take.

Tai and Lewis are not good. They are slow, lumbering dudes that even washed JDS could get wins over. In fact, they’re the last wins JDS has had in his entire career.

Tai isnt slow at all and Lewis has thrown flying kicks.

Tim Sylvia is among Fedors top wins lol and you call Lewis and Tai slow/lumbering.

Tuivasa would’ve never sniffed the top 5 except for the fact that he beat Lewis.
Sylvia in his prime wasn’t nearly as slow as he became later, and he’s also a UFC champ who set the record at the time for defenses, whereas Tai and Lewis…well…aren’t.

If Fedor retired at 32 years old like GSP he would have retired undefeated with a record of 32-1 with no unavenged losses and dominant wins over the 4 best HWs from his generation.

DC started his ufc career at 34---then won and defended 2 titles.

And Fedor didnt fight Barnett or Mir by 32-both of whom were better than Sylvia...and equal or better to Nog/CroCop/AA

I think it’s a combination of leaving prime (the evidence of which can be seen in his sambo loss in 2008 and struggle with Arlovski in 2009), and the cage issue that you mentioned. I think you are absolutely correct that Fedor’s style did not work well in a cage, and I think he actually fights better in a cage right now than he ever has.

I hesitate to just lump Fedor in with PRIDE guys though, and I’ve actually been thinking about a concept I pulled out of my ass: “ruleset GOAT” lol. Like, under the goofy ass RINGS ruleset, Fedor was a RINGS Tournament Champion; under PRIDE rules, Fedor was a PRIDE GP Champ and PRIDE HW champ; under Unified Rules in a ring, Fedor was WAMMA champ, and he defended it once under unified rules in a ring and once under Strikeforce rules in a cage. If he wins the Bellator title, under unified rules in a cage—is he the ruleset goat? Like, who else comes to mind that has those accomplishments under such varied rulesets? Hendo and Reem come to mind, but Fedor’s accomplishments are greater than theirs imo.

Hendo and Reem were juicers. Fedor coach also said Fedor wasn't in his prime anymore when he fought arvloski.

Barnett equal or better than Crocop and Minotauro? Barnett literally lost to Crocop 3 times and I'm saying this as a huge Barnett fan (check profile picture).

Werdum and Bigfoot also popped. Fedor didn’t lose to anyone during his first run who didn’t fail a PED test or use TRT.

Get some Depends amigo...sounds serious.

martin lazarov (0-2)
levon lagilava (1-3)
hiroya takada (1-3)
mihail apostolov (0-1)
ryushi yanagisawa (24-25)
lee hasdell (9-14)
chris haseman (20-17)
gary goodridge (23-22)
yuji nagata (0-2)
naoya ogawa (7-2)
zulu (9-9)
hong man choi (4-5)
jaideep singh (2-3)

Look who's here the usual clown convoy.

Yes Sylvia was always a clod. He threw nice punches but moved like molasses in January. He couldnt even jump rope when he arrived ar MFS

Timmy won the belt from Ricco after going 1-0 in the UFC beating Cabbage. Defended against AA 2x and Monson,

Dave Menne better than Jacare or Romero???

Obviously Miletuch and Newton > Colbt, right?

Heyyy, look at that! You’re actually starting to understand how fight mileage works.
This is a big day, Martin.

DC debuted at 31 actually (but I get your point), so was able to fight at a high level even near 40.
Couture debuted at 34 and won a title at age 43.

GSP though was 21-22, Fedor was like 23. See how this works?

He has ONE legit loss to Mirko.

And I listed 3 fighters---who Barnett is literally 2-2 against.

One CroCop loss was an injury, one was an hour after he fought Nog

Only its not "mileage" when your next 5 fights after winning the belt are nontitle fights against bums including a winless fighter.

Thats a cancrusher who got exposed.

And it was actually 7 nontitle fights after Nog.

Seven straight fights against guys with no business fighting the top dog

GOAT shit??? More like goat shit

I’d say top 2. It’s Fedor and GSP at the top, either order is acceptable.
exactly my sentiment, 1a and 1b

Fedor and GSP are a clear step ahead of everyone else. You can make a compelling argument for either guy being the GOAT.

I also don't argue with jones supporters. Jones is also an acceptable goat choice so long as cheating is out of the question

AKC level hoop jumping lol

None of Bigfoot, Werdum, or Hendo popped vs Fedor. Hendo never popped at all. TRT was allowed

He was a substantial favorite against all 3
