Law FBI raids John Bolton's house looking for "classified documents"

Even if that is the case, it doesn't show a bias against Trump which is what Republicans allege. Trump was held to the same standard as Biden. A standard afforded to high ranking members of the executive branch (as Pence was also held to the same standard).

Maybe the political elite get favorable treatment and people can debate whether that is acceptable. But Republicans want Trump to get special treatment that goes even beyond what is given to the political elite.

I never said there was a bias against Trump. I said charge his ass.

No, because the National Archives makes recommendations in the event of non compliance. Something I think that could better help you understand this is that it's not just the concept of receiving a document and then keeping it; all high level government actors _generate_ documents that they will have to return. Almost all of them. How many documents get generated by any given person at that level? An ocean. The system doesn't function if National Archives cannot take the lead in a general sense. So long as people comply with their requests, there is plenty of reasonable space to operate in. It's not functionally feasible for anyone to even know all of the documents they could have; it has to be done in conjunction with archives.

The national archivist makes determinations when the plebs have classified info in their position? GTFO

Trump should have been charged for not returning the documents. Biden should have been charged for removing documents that he had no authority to possess. But let's keep making excuses for politicians that break the laws they create.

No. The letter of law and equal application means he should have been charged for taking them in the first place.

That's what we do to military personnel.
Should every single person pulled over for speeding automatically receive a ticket?

Well, yes, they do. They review what they have received vs what they should have received. Remember, it's also documents the person themselves generate (which is a fucking lot). And if they are missing something, archives asks for it. Neither Trump or Biden should be charged for simply having documents that archives requested. And, of course, neither were.

Stupid comparison to illegally taking classified documents, but yes, the laws should be applied equally across the board, if they hope to uphold those laws. Otherwise, they cease to be laws and more tools to punish people selectively.

I wasn’t drawing a comparison of the crimes, I was choosing something relatively innocuous as a way to better understand somebody’s stance on crime and punishment.

Remembers what, LOLawyer man?

You're just desperately deflecting that the democrat candidate for President gladly accepted endorsements from not one, but TWO Cheney's, and your argument is what again? Oh' that's right, "It just hammered home how much Orange Man is bad".

Awesome argument, counselor.
Lol careful maga larper , those goal posts are heavy

She went on a campaign tour with Harris, much to the delight of the party and their media propagandists and the base. Well, the part of the base that hadn't already left the party by that time. I'd say that's "embracing her".

In case you're wondering why the Democrats are where they are right now, they're currently crying over John Bolton getting raided, and used the Cheney's to attempt to boost their standing with the public during an election campaign. It's almost like they don't stand for anything but "Orange Man Bad".

As for Republicans abandoning Cheney, well, she showed her true colors by throwing in with Kamala Harris and the Democrats, so it appears they were right to do so.
She showed her true colors (red, white, and blue) by holding truth to power. Republicans turned against her because she chose country over cult.

Yes. And I say that as someone that has been given a pass the last 4 times that Ive been stopped for speeding.

You are mistaken. When military personnel screw up their career is over and they are charged; period.

As for asking for documents that Biden was never authorized to possess - What do we charge avg Joe schmoe with for mishandling classified materials? And short of a presidential pardon, is he allowed to keep clearance afterwards?

You're conflating different things. High level members of the government deal with so many documents it's not reasonable to expect they keep track of them all. Archives does that. Again, for the third (?) time, this also includes anything they generate, which is probably millions of individual documents. They = their office, in addition to themselves individually. Nobody at that level of government should reasonably be expected to keep track of this stuff. But, when archives asks, you do what they say.
