I'm going to say Apocalypse Now even though it's less a Vietnam War film to me than most of the others.

First half of Full Metal Jacket, then!
I do admit the first half is better than the last half, but my estimation for the last half has grown over the years, and when I first watched it, I was kinda unprepared for that to be the end of the movie. I wanted to follow these guys into more shit. Which I guess is a good thing.

Jacobs Ladder
I dont really consider it a Vietnam film per se, as the only parts in Vietnam are flashbacks for the most part, but It's one of the GOAT movies of all time ever.

I think it is if you write a single sentence summary of the plot, but I get you.

Like the enthusiasm for the film though. It's a top 3 for me.

Dude thank you. The 2nd half has so many classic parts too.. Animal Mother, me so horny, ‘the duality of man’, the gi talking about his dead VC brother, the door gunner.. the whole movie is awesome

FMJ is one of the few films that knocked me off my feet. From the moment it starts with the shot of the recruits getting their heads shaved, the music, and then one of the greatest opening scenes of all time where the main characters are introduced in the mess hall. My father was working nights and I was bored and started rummaging through his lodger's film collection and I pulled this out. Watching it in the middle of the night as a 13 year old kid, not knowing what to expect but totally captivated by every second of it has to be the greatest film experience of my life. It's one of 3 times where I've watched a film then immediately watched it again. The other two being Pulp Fiction and Fight Club.

I've searched for other war films that could give me the same experience, but all disappointed.

I saw it as a kid, and the part where Pyle shoots himself in the bathroom def stuck with me, when I went to sleep that night.

Like that's what bootcamp did to him, imagine if he'd made it to Vietnam
