Favorite refs?

agree that herzog is really good. and honest too - i can't remember what fight it was but he made a really blatant mistake at one point and publicly admitted it and apologized for it. happened a few years ago, was pretty impressed with the way he did it.

I dont really have favorite refs cos its a hard job and eventually they make good and bad decisions. Herb is corrupt.

I like Not so Goddard, and Herzog I guess, in that they seem like cool guys i'd hang out with.

Cecil Peoples. Simply nobody more entertaining.

No ref is perfect. There are too many situations where you must make point blank decisions for any of them to make the right call 100% of the time. But I think Herzog makes the least amount of mistakes, he's quality.

BJM is the GOAT, though, whatever you think of him as a media personality or commentator. As a ref he is still the best there ever was.

Herzog, he fucked up recently, can’t remember what it was but the only time I’ve seen him mess it up, he’s the best.

Would like to have a pint with Marc Goddard, he seems like a good bloke and would have some stories I bet.
Goddard has had a couple of bad mistakes recently and he seems like he likes to be involved in the fight a bit too much, but I still think Goddard generally does a pretty good job.

Goddard stops fights too early, he hands out way too many standing TKOs. Also hate his inconsistency on clinch separations, sometimes he lets them hug on the fence for a full round doing nothing, other times yells at them to work and separates them after like 10 seconds.

He was definitely way better years ago. He certainly errs on the side of caution and fighter safety, and he has made a few very bad calls recently.

yamasaki is the goat ref. as he says, “the later, the better.”

herb “show me the green” dean is the second best because he always makes the fights turn out how you want them to.

Big John was a way better ref than he is on commentary. I am glad the PFL took him off.

In honor of last Saturdays main event, where Herb did both a good and bad job in the same fight, let’s rank your favorite current refs.

Top tier
1. Jason Herzog
Calm, respectful, unbiased. Dude rarely makes mistakes. Gold standard of refereeing, probably the GOAT tbh

2. Mark Smith
Never overly interferes either. Quietly goes unnoticed because that’s how good he is.

Mid tier
-Keith Peterson
Guy needs to lay off the cigarettes and booze. Jk, he’s ok

-Marc Goddard
Probably controversial because people like him, but he seems to have a pretty big ego. Always in control of the action, but he’s overly argumentative with fighters, and when someone does something he doesn’t like, he will sometimes DQ or end the fight without warning.

Low tier
-Kerry Hatley
-Chris Tognoni
Two guys who seem clueless out there lol

-Herb
Consistently makes mistakes, so bad stoppages these past years. Dude is past his prime. He used to be a really solid ref too

-Dan Mirgliotta
All time terrible ref, right up there with Kim Winslow and Cecil People’s. Anytime I see him reffing a main or co main event my ass clenches involuntarily

-Mike Beltran
Met him a couple times before. Honestly seems like a super cool, friendly, and awesome dude. I’m not gonna lie and say his reffing is good though. But he’s a cool person

No opinion
-Jacob Montalvo
Haven’t seen him enough or really noticed anything about him to have an opinion. If I had to guess I’d probably put him in top or middle tier idk
I used to have Beltran as #1 but in past few years he's making more mistakes and I'd agree Herzog overtaken him but he's still better than that mid their and Smith.

Smith makes some awful mistakes there was an Abu Dhabi card I remember he took away a fighter s top control because the guy losing fouled the fighter on top.
