favorite jiu jitsu

Many whitebelts, myself included around the 4-month mark, get caught up in the 10th Planet hype. I wasted so much time learning Rubber Guard and the Lockdown that I slowed down my own progress and essentially had to learn Full Guard and Half Guard again. Do yourself a favor and stick to the fundamentals until you're a blue belt, then start looking at crazy shit on the internet and smoking pot if you still want to.

Haha, I did the same thing. I think some of the 10th planet techniques are appealing early into your training career because they work easily at lower levels. I'm not saying they can't work at higher levels too - just that it's easy to make rubber guard work on other 4 month white belts.

Those types of techniques also become much easier simply by doing regular stretching, which is extra appealing to a new jiu jitsu student. Improving other attributes like balance, coordination, and timing takes much, much longer than improving flexibility. When you can quickly improve your flexibility and immediately begin using rubber guard techniques with success against other low-level students, it seems very attractive. Unfortunately for me, it greatly hindered my progress because the solution to every problem I encountered seemed to be either "improve my flexibility more" or "improve my squeeze more," neither of which are particularly helpful in other areas of jiu jitsu, and neither of which helped me deal with more advanced practitioners.

iv noticed that rubber guard dosnt usally work on advanced grapplers but if my normal moves arent working then i resort to that

i think newer people see 10thplanets moves from rubber guard and think there cool looking which most of them are but you dont necessarily need rubber guard for alot of those moves some people prefer using it to set it up instead of other ways

Ricardo Viera got my favorite jj style, monkey style, jumping, twisting and turning.
