there is tons of styles of jui jitsu i want to know what people prefer i like 10 planets system all though alot of people dont like it

I like Guerrilla jiu jitsu because I like the transitions from standing to the ground and always looking for the submission. I don't think there's really any other styles though, its all the same thing anyway just different people have different styles. I also like Marcelo Garcia and Rodolfo Viera

In our Academy there was a 35+ wb douchebag (guy liked to bitchslap people instead of doing the knucles or when inside someone's guard and then declare that he's a "mma fighter and its instinct reaction to him" )who wanted to compete in our inside academy tournament in blue belt division because of the manto hoodie prize. To qualify he:
-challenged our respected instructor
-called out on our prime purple belt competitor
-stated he should have been a blue cause he "deserves all the 4 stripes none of which he has
-claimed to be a blue belt in "<douchebag's> name" who he invented.

Now that's badass, don't you think?

Anti-Off-top: I love all styles that incorporate judo for real, hayastan, guerilla. but in the end it's all jiu jitsu.

Most are pretty solid. I don't really buy into this 10th Planet stuff (sorry, TS). If they had guys who were out there winning BJJ world championships or were top-level MMA champs, I would be more sold on it. For all the talk about how awesome that system is, the results just aren't there. As for the rest of BJJ, I think it's all pretty great stuff. Marcelo Garcia, Roger Gracie, Lovato Jr, and a bunch of other guys are out there doing really great and interesting stuff.

Vinny uses rubber guard quite often. They have some good techniques I think but as a system it needs work.

Buchecha vs. Galvao last week. I like that style, whatever you wanna call it.

i agree with you on that i just like the rubber guard series and the lockdown and all the offence moves

Fundamentals-focused, gi-based Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and good ol' fashioned Judo.

Can you name any students of "Guerilla Jiu Jitsu" who actually exemplify that? Because I think that the name, along with 10th Planet, is just branding. 10th Planet a "system, really?

Many whitebelts, myself included around the 4-month mark, get caught up in the 10th Planet hype. I wasted so much time learning Rubber Guard and the Lockdown that I slowed down my own progress and essentially had to learn Full Guard and Half Guard again. Do yourself a favor and stick to the fundamentals until you're a blue belt, then start looking at crazy shit on the internet and smoking pot if you still want to.

I like the style of BJJ exemplified by people like Xande and Roger: fundamentals and pressure, no reliance on fancy stuff. Nothing wrong with flashy, but I prefer sticking to a small number of simple moves and trying to get better at those. Depth rather than breadth.

iv used rubber guard for four years but wile slowly studding it all i was taut by my instructers was the basics so i branched out to learn 10planets style but i know there are tons of holes in this style

My problem with the 10th Planet 'style' of BJJ (yes, it's BJJ) is that the few moves that are truly typical of that style (none of the stuff was really invented by 10PJJ) are just variations of common moves in traditional or modern BJJ, and not necessarily better versions. Does rubber guard work? Sure, but so does an omoplata from an overhook & collar-tie with both feet on the hips, where you have much better control of the angle. Do the lockdown half guard sweeps work? Sure, but Lucas Leite has much more success with his old school knee-torque approach than any 10th Planet guy I've seen, as he can move his hips and transition more freely. Ryan Hall also hits more rolling back takes (the 'Ninja roll') in high level competition than 10th Planet guys, even though they say he's doing them wrong for not using a lockdown. The list goes on.

I really like the Checkmat style, it's very submission focused and a little looser about position than the other big schools. I like Atos for their emphasis on drilling and their technical innovation. I think for making fundamentals work on the highest levels you can't beat Gracie Barra. I can't think of any GB guys with really flashy games, but I do see them pull out stuff you learned at white belt that no one else is using at BB which I love.

I said that in the rest of the post if you read past the first few sentences. And yes i think 10th planet is called a system. I dont know any other gjj practitioners other than the Camarillos

Someone using rubber guard as part of their game doesn't make it a system. And 10th Planet doesn't have a patent on grabbing your foot/ankle in closed guard.

Once again read the rest of my post. I just said that they have some good techniques. Also Vinny does call it rubber guard and does talk about training 10th planet.

i dont think the lockdown is better than regular half guard i use them pretty evenly the only reason i like 10th planet is because i use rubber guard and thats the only system iv seen teach it i dont use the lockdown that much because its not that useful iv been trained in american jiu jitsu but they dont teach rubber guard so i try to learn it my self
