Favorite high level chess matches between two chess masters

cm punk was a really good wrestler and gall has a good ground game, specially since he subbed sage now too.

then that brings me to sage who is really good at karate vs gall who has a good ground game.

Not everyone's cup of tea, but Maia vs Shields was a real high level grappling fight and very evenly matched.

Frank Shamrock v Tito Ortiz.

Shamrock stepped on the scale fully clothed and took a book out of his pocket after stepping off and weighing in. He was easily the smaller of the two, and he made a point of it.

While I don't think the fight was boring by any means, to the untrained eye it may have seemed like there was a lot of top game inactivity by Tito during the bout (as Tito was having a hard time keeping Shamrock pinned down due to his constant movement, and wasn't able to strike much as a result).

But that was Tito's game - TDs and GnP. And he was good at it. Problem for Tito was Shamrock used this against him by staying extremely active on bottom, relentlessly looking for the sweep, sub, or escape, which inevitably led to Tito tiring and losing the contest.

"Conditioning is my best submission hold."
I can't even post mine now, because this is so good.

In the Wonderboy vs Woodley vein. What are some slow paced, tactical fights that you actually enjoyed?

Example: JDS vs Overeem, the tension was super high for the whole fight even with few strikes being thrown.
What does chess have anything to do with this?

didnt mind kramnik kasparov either - berlin wall is no joke - and kasparov is like the jon jones of mma, undoubtedly great and creative, but with a personality where everyone wanted to see him fall

alekhine / capablanca as well - alekhine was a drunk and too poor to play too much but had the natural calculating ability to beat anyone - he had the equivalent of a 'gofundme' to get the match on - and won

it's a bit more complicated than that.
at the time of their match Alekhine was sober and Capablanca was the one partying. Alekhine only became an alcoholic much later I think.

also Capa has a positive overall score against Alekhine, who avoided Capablanca like the plague for the rest of his career, refusing to play in tournaments where Capablanca was also invited, never giving the promised rematch (ala conor, unfortunately, although I still respect Alekhine) and lost the only time he had to play him afterwards I believe.

Nevertheless, 2 great champions with very different styles (attacking magician Alekhine vs methodic, computer like finals Capablanca)

Carlssen vs Anand, for more recent and higher level than the old fisher spassky championship

"this is a great chess match, joe" - mike goldberg

Goldy was saying this quote while black beast was pounding out an undersized kickboxer on the ground after muscling him down.

It's not the same without him.

Weidman vs Machida

yea i follow them as well - i thought i was going in too much depth w my initial post heheh - cant imagine anyone here follows chess, given how low the attention spans are here (and the pride taken in low attention spans)

had all the controversy that we love - robbery!!! etc.
And roids too. They had Deep Blue study all of the tape on Kasparov that they had.
Artificial Intelligence, the HGH of the chess world.

why no love for kasparov?
because of his annoying personality

Anyways, Kasparov as a chess player = GOAT - I have to admit

and I feel more identified with Karpov´s game - yes, I´m defensive and I admire his boa-constrictor style
