Well... somebody needed to make this thread lol. I figure it would be a waste to go through an awesome year and not have us share our favorite games of the year.

You can list as many as you want just make sure the game released between Jan 1 of 2025 to the last day of December.

I played many games this year but I'll just list the five that were my favorites from that large group.

5. Absolum - A game that I've always wanted to play. Grew up playing Capcom's Dungeons and Dragons beat'em up with my brother in the arcades and this is a spiritual succesor to those games with a roguelike twist. Really addicted gameplay loop. I dropped everything the moment this drop and wasn't able to put it down until I got the platinum.

4. The First Berserker Khazan - Underrated game that didn't meet sales target. Also got snubbed at The Game Awards for best action game. It's more of a Nioh-like than a Soulslike in the way that the hub area is used as a portal to take you to other stages in the game and at the end of each stage is a boss fight. I found the combat extremely satisfying. I love games that actually have impact when you hit stuff. You get to choose from three weapons but they all have a lot of different skills that make each playthrough feel unique. This was my most played game of 2025.

3. Shinobi : Art of Vengeance - A great action platformer with metroidvania elements. Super solid in every aspect. Great combat, music, hand-drawn 2D artwork, platforming, etc. Only minor complaint is some levels went on too long that I didn't really feel like going back to them to get S rank. Would feel way too stressful so I got to 100% completion and called it a day until DLC releases.

2 - Silent Hill f - Feels strange rating this number 2 because it was the exact same spot that I gave Silent Hill 2 Remake to last year. This franchise is quickly becoming one of my favorites because they do horror the way I love it. It doesn't shy away from making you feel uncomfortable and this game in particular has a really interesting narrative in how it explains more and more in each subsequent playthrough. The first playthrough is just one layer of the story and as you progress to new game plus there are new cutscenes and new items and notes to pick up. The sound design and grotesque imagery makes it very immersive.

1 - Expedition 33 - I don't need to say much here. Even though I had some issues with Act 3 I can't deny that I was completely engrossed with the story to the point that I'd force my self to wake up early before work to get some time in. That's how you know something is special.

The games I enjoyed most this year is probably Kingdom Come 2 and Deep Rock Galactic Survivor.

I didn’t play too many games this year. Absolum is on my list to play and I still need to play Ghost of Yotei. Wish it was out for PC though

I didn't play a lot of 2025 releases as I have a huge backlog.

But
1) Expedition 33
2) Ghost of Yotei
3) Death Stranding 2
4) Doom: Dark Ages, but I'd rank this one lower

Not even a question....

"Expedition 33". Not just GOTY, but one of the best games I've ever played, period. Sometimes I think I'm just getting older, because a lot of modern games can't sustain my attention for more than 20 hours. I beat this game in 50 hours in my first run, and then started it up almost immediately and put another 80 hours into it, just to see what I missed in the first run. It's that good. It's practically flawless in execution. Story, gameplay, atmosphere, graphics, characters, voice acting...

10, 10, 10, 10, 10.....

It's on another level than anything else released this year.

2025 wasn’t a very active year for gaming for me. Put about 70 hours into Nightreign and about one hour into Doom the Dark Ages and that’s about it.

Oh, and about 15-20 hours into the Heretic + Hexen remaster.

Nightreign is good but part of the reason why I even have that many hours in it is because my two best friends only ever want to play that. It’s fun, and I am enjoying the new DLC, but until this DLC came out I had sort of had my fill by about the 45 hours mark back in say late October but haven’t been able to convince my friends to play something else.

For me at top spot it's either Stellar Blade or KCD2. The former only came to PC this year so its a 2025 game for me.

My most played games on Steam, outside a few, are Bethesda (New Vegas too) and Souls games.

KCD2 is everything I love about Bethesda, but they take the lived in, allive, and reactive world feel to new heights. I only stopped playing to wait for the DLC's. It's nice to have so many hours of something so great waiting for my return

Stellar Blade does everything I love about Souls games. The mysteries, exploration, and cool boss fights drives me on as much as the combat and eve's jiggles.

Its so freaking slick, and now that I can max everything, it's even more stunning. I'm currently stuck on the Tachy boss fight, so I'm cleaning up some quests in the wasteland to level up. There's nothing quite like getting revenge on a boss.

I can see Expedition 33 being right up there too. I only bought it to support the devs and have it for later, but still put about 8 hours in. It came out at a busy time.

FF7 Rebirth is also a 2025 game for me. I left off at Costa Del Sol. I was getting performance issues and decided to hold off until I upgraded.

I hear they added support for DLSS 4 and frame gen now. Hopefully that helps with the stutters. That's another gem in waiting, though I didn't enjoy the open world aspects.

Tainted Grail was another gem, until act 3. I did not enjoy that at all. Its still worth your time though, and they just released a big expansion.

I can't wait to see what they do with a follow up, we need to go to Camelot!

Ghost of Yotei
Khazan

They're about even

Lmao one hour into Doom? I take it you didn’t like it? It was kind of disappointing. Not like a bad game but more like a 7.5 game for me. Ended strong but those open field maps were not fun. Especially if you wanted to collect everything. So much going back and forth.

I liked what I’ve played so far just fine, but it dropped in May, same month as Nightreign, so I just haven’t had much time to dedicate to it. I played through the first mission at launch, then thanks to Nightreign didn’t go back to it for like four or five months, then replayed the first mission again but still didn’t progress into the second mission. I will go back to it for sure, and hopefully soon, but it’s been a busy year for me. I hope I can find more time for gaming in 2026.

Only played one game that was released in 2025.... Metal Gear Solid 3/Delta.

It was a fine trip down memory lane, but there's so many aspects of it that felt off to me... and I played MGS3 around a dozen times back in the day.

Played it all the way through once... haven't touched it since.

Guess when it was announced, a MGS3 Remake, I actually hoped it was a 'reimagining'... more like an open-world Rambo simulator set in a dense forest with an army of enemies hunting you down... and you're hunting them.

Been 21 years now, I'm still hoping for that game will one day be released.

Dying Light the Beast is really good too.

I highly reccomend playing the first Dying Light and its expansion, the following, before (super cheap on Steam), as the Beast is more of a continuation than Dying Light 2 was. The OG's hold up really well, played through them this year.

The Beast pulls a lot from all games, it's awesome.

Fatal Fury: City of The Wolves
I just bought that. 67% off. Really good deal and only came out this year. Curious when they'll announce the second season. Probably after Mr. Big gets released in January

Mr. Big just dropped this month. It's looking like they will announce Season 2 in January. They just dropped a teaser hinting at Wolfgang Krauser returning.

Fortunately SNK has some big money backers and they plan to keep this game going.

Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon was the first game I fully completed in a few years. Amazing Bethesda inspired RPG, it's my GOTY. 9/10

Vein is a zombie survival game in early access I sunk a lot of time into. People describe it as "First person Project Zomboid". In its current state I give it a solid 7/10

I got Expedition 33 on release day and came close to beating that( I forgot I got so annoyed with combat I gave up just before final boss) I loved the environments and the world building but 10 months later it was a largely forgettable experience for me. I couldn't tell you shit about the story and just remember how stale the combat was towards the end: 30 minute boss fights where you just try to perfectly block over and over. 7/10

I played E33 with keyboard and mouse. Is it way more enjoyable with a pad?!

I hated the repetition in fights.
