Saw this on Reddit and thought it was interesting.

It's a shame that pro athletes and other public figures who fancy themselves social justice activists giving voices to the underprivileged and oppressed, continue to bend the knee to the Chinese regime in order to keep that cash flowing.

I can understand people who stay out of politics, both global and domestic, but Lebron has actively defended the Chinese regime without being prompted.

When one displays such bad judgement on one topic, it tends to cast doubt on other causes they feel strongly about. If you believe Trump was robbed of the election and will be reinstated in August, I'm going to take what you say with a grain of salt. Similarly, if you legitimize the Chinese government, I'm going to think you're a clown.

That drawing does not make any sense. There's no way he fits completely in that tank if he was actually that tall. He can hardly pass through the hatch.

This definition certainly fits the CCP almost flawlessly considering Han Supremacism is also part of the party's core ideology.

That definition sounds like a Trump wet dream.

He's sitting with his legs crossed

communist not fascism bro

The definitions of communist have changed quite a bit in recent years. What modern day "socialists" and "communists" believe is basically exactly how Hitler and Mussolini defined fascism.

You guys will cry about anything right?

Just don't buy the sneakers they are promoting.

You guys sure love to conflate Fascism and Nazism with leftist ideals. China is about as Communist as North Korea is a Peoples' Republic.

It's remarkable how American conservatives can just invent new realities and keep repeating them to each other over and over until they are true.

LBJ has never expressed support of the Chinese government, and he probably doesn't have much knowledge of the Chinese government, although probably more than the average conservative. Yet his grave sin was....failing to criticize the Chinese government to conservatives' liking, which they packaged as a hypocrisy relating to his domestic (American) activism

And, as for the situation in Hong Kong itself, James still didn't have much to say at all: "I felt like with this particular situation, it was something that not only was I not informed enough about, I just felt like it was something that not only myself and my teammates or our organization had enough information to even talk about it at that point in time, and we still feel the same way."

...

Still, for years, James has taken up the mantle of progressive issues, and so, yes, for many it was disappointing to see him tread so cautiously on what seems, from here, to be such a clear-cut matter of right and wrong.

But targeting James and accusing him, personally, of suborning a communist dictatorship for his inartful comments is misplaced at best — an attempt to score cheap culture war points while letting the NBA itself off the hook, according to Dr. Harry Edwards, a renowned social justice activist and professor of sociology who has served as an adviser to Colin Kaepernick, Muhammad Ali, John Carlos and Tommie Smith.

The very same people trying to dunk on him now have often had little interest in hearing about social justice causes in America — particularly when James was involved — but, suddenly, they weirdly feel like his voice is not only valued, but also required. What’s more, they seem to feel that his unwillingness to speak about the Hong Kong protesters voids all of his prior advocacy efforts, the school he built in Akron, the spotlight he’s brought on police brutality and state-sanctioned violence and his lobbying for greater gun control, according to those critics. Edwards isn’t having it: “That’s not just disingenuous, it's degenerate,” he said.

Basically, the entire narrative is just a way for right wing puds to leverage anti-Chinese sentiment toward dismissing James' activism for black issues. To the extent that they care about Hong Kong or Taiwan, it's almost exclusively so they can say "see, you don't really care black lives - you're just a puppet!"

And it's not like American conservatives themselves really care about democracy and due process and free speech: for all of American history, they've been attacking those things while liberals try to protect them.

With that said, Go Suns @Anung Un Rama @Jesus H. Sherdog

Trump isn't going to be made president in August or any other month unless he wins in 2024.

But it would be nice to see American companies to tell China to eat a dick if they don't like something. It isn't lost on me that they use our capitalism as a weapon against us.

Yeah, it's complicated. I've basically gotten to the point where I don't take issue with "communist" being expressly linked to authoritarianism so long as the speaker doesn't do the same with Marxism.

The basic truth is that communism, as an historical artifact, was appropriated by Leninism and later Stalinism/M-L-ism. That's the model that won out in left-wing politics and it certainly led to a lot of authoritarian abuses and right-wing social politics.

So when people want to say China "is communist" with regard to its social policies, I say fine, so be it. It's just that their economic model is absolutely and definitely not communist.

Lebron is a joke. An uneducated joke. He got loans in high school to pay for his hummers, clothes, and jewelry. Do we honestly think he did ANY school work in school? Him bowing the knee to the CCP negates anything he says about our country. He is a clown.

It’s like he is a centaur with the lower half being a tank

He's fighting oppression and inequality by selling $500 sneakers made by 7yo kids who make 3cents/day (with overtime). Leave the man alone ya'll!
