Large hypocrisy from fans here.

Clearly the majority of people criticizing Conor aren't fans of his.

Tell me what other fighter has done the media obligations, hyping fights ALONE (Siver/Aldo), and carrying a event (Ireland) on his back besides GSP?

Did GSP take breaks?
He didn't fake retiring but he did take time off.

The only thing Conor did wrong is pull out of a scheduled fight close to the date.
The reasons he chose though can't be criticized.

MMA is a gruelling sport, we always say. Maybe even more than boxing due to pure KO's.

I'm not going to criticize someone who chooses to train and want less media obligations. Especially after his workload.

There is no hypocrisy. Yes fighters should get paid more even if they promote less. Their base pay is low as hell for athletes risking brain damage

It is hard to argue with an organization that is light years ahead of their competition. Nobody makes these fighters sign with the UFC, and if its that bad, don't sign with the UFC.

No one is forcing them to take that risk.

That's the only criticism I'll give him. Conor is a guy who called everyone a pussy for dropping out of fights due to injury. It works both ways. Whats a worse reason for pulling out of a fight, injury or not wanting to do media? Before people bring the excuse of Dana pulling Conor and that Conor didn't pull out.. stop that shit. There is fault on both parties, but at the end of the day McGregor pulled out and the criticism will come. If anything he should have taken some time off and never signed the contract.

His reasons can be criticized because what's good for the goose is good for the gander. And besides his reasons are short-sighted and selfish. He has a sense of entitlement that the UFC allowed him to have.

Who cares what he has done for the UFC or how much money has generated in the past. The UFC machine will roll-on with or without him.

When Aldo said virtually the same thing before 189, I didn't see your post about it.

Mitrone left pretty much for the same reason, Ben Henderson as well. Did you have a thread calling us fairweather fans then?

Fighters should be paid more I dont think anyone would argue against this. BUT he made his name off of being a good promoter of his fights. It is what helped him get such a huge pay day. So if he feels like he doesnt need to fulfill that again then he needs to take a pay cut.

Fans are different people with different opinions

Conor's fans are the hypocrites. When Aldo didn't wanna do a world tour and a lot of press, wanted to focus on training, they called Aldo a pussy, said he didn't want Conor to clown him.

Now that it's Conor wanting this, they suddenly want less promotion. They think he deserves a break from it, and if a fighter wNts to focus on fitting, that's what they should focus on.

Conor and his fans want it both ways, a lot like raging feminists. They want the benefits without the costs.

Dillashaw still has people sending him pictures of snakes. Now the media attention turns against Mcgregor and he doesn't like it so much.

He didn't even pull out of a fight, he pulled out of a week of press work that he didn't agree to beforehand.

I don't know man, I think the real hypocrisy is the Conor Bless brigade - recently out of hiding, I see - who would shit on guys like Aldo or RDA for pulling out of a fight with an injury. "Bruised rib! He should fight, the fuckin midget pussy!" "What, you can't fight with a stubbed toe, RDA?", "he broke his vagina" etc. Now their hero drops out because he doesn't wanna do a couple of press conferences and yet somehow he's not considered a pussy in their eyes.

Would you be saying the same shit if Conor was still on his undefeated streak?

Last time I checked, Conor beats his opponents down mentally by way of the media!

Now that he lost, he no longer has the power to play his mind games. At the end of the day the media platform went from a psychological weapon to an inconvenient aspect of the fight game for him.

look up...

I wasn't one of the ones calling Aldo a pussy for not wanting to do a world tour.

Regardless, Conor brings approximately 50 zillion times more value than Aldo anyway. Just ask Aldo, who finally got paid big money after an entire career thanks to Conor.

Personally, I don't think it's a big deal if Conor didn't want to do a shitload of press. He said he was still going to do some press including a press conference.

It needs to be reasonable. GSP didn't do the amount of media Conor does. GSP took training very seriously and managed time so that he could do media as quick as possible, that it doesn't hinder preparation. Flying from Iceland to Vegas/NY for a presser, then a photoshoot, interviews, shows, radio and whatever entails a "mini world tour" is not reasonable during training. UFC's way of thinking is clear - as much money as possible and fighter preparation is secondary since they don't control the outcome of a fight anyway. This is so wrooong when they, for once, have a gigantic star.

You and I do not know what his UFC contract says and or stipulates...he and his camp should have worked it out with Dana and the UFC if all of the press conferences/promo work was not going to allow him to train sufficiently...if Conor felt that this wasn't going to happen then post a retirement tweet and be on your way...I am not a fan of Dana or the UFC but there are many sides to this story...
