FALLOUT 4 Official Discussion: Super Stimpak Edition

I highly doubt it would be possible but you guys think you would be able to build settlements and have npcs stay there?

I am thinking of end game content or even something to make building a settlement worthwhile (aside from just making it a free place for your character to sleep / rest. It'd probably be buggy as heck and wouldn't work but damn it'd be fun if you could actually build up your own settlement with people etc

Wow; thanks!

EDIT: My thoughts so far:

It's already seeming more of the same.

  • Same '50s era "leather jacket" gang (Atom Cats)
  • Same style of interiors (though, more colourful and bright)
  • Same enemies (deathclaws, mirelurks, super mutants)
  • Same items (pre-war money)
I was hoping for a total evolution on the game and its concepts (IE: GTA 3 -> GTA 4), but this is looking like a vast expansion pack. Even though I was defending FO4 against the complaints of "bad graphics," when you're watching the gameplay long enough, the character models/graphics do appear and feel the exact same as FO3 and New Vegas (right down to the mechanical movements the character models have).

I'm hoping that the story and upgraded crafting/building system will be the saving grace, but otherwise, I could see Fallout 4 being buried as the first critically panned Bethesda title in recent memory just because it feels identical to its predecessors.

tbh dat voiced protagonist could next level this shit for me. Silent player characters are my #1 gripe with Bethesda in general

The thing with that is you can choose exactly what your character will say & imagine the voice as your own, so to speak. Now you choose a short phrase and rest will be surprise even to you which could break some of the immersion. But like I said, we'll see. Of course it would be stupid to first read the whole sentence and then hear you character say the same thing aloud too.

Talking about being silent..I hope there's a "don't say anything" option in the wheel too like they had in Walking Dead.

Well, that's what they are doing.. Did you see the E3 presentation at all?

Very interesting analysis. I'm refusing to watch a lot of the leaks and videos so I'll have to take your word for it.

I'm getting a very similar vibe though, your impressions struck the exact note.

What'd be amazing is if you could be a slaver and prowl the wastelands for poor saps to toil in your camp. Maybe have them build statues of you and shit before selling them off to some mutant sex farm

Course you'd only be allowed to have white, male slaves what with the whole GG thing

Indeed—though, my thoughts are from just a brief snippet of the live stream (which has now crashed—funnily enough, the pirates are already out in full force trying to solicit the streamer to upload the game files in the comments, LOL).

But it's hard to count Bethesda out though since they have such a stellar track record. For all we know, the story, RPG, and crafting might be so impressive that we won't talk about all the redundant stuff that's so clearly evident in the gameplay footage thus far.

Personally, I'm probably going to read the reviews first, and then decide on buying the game later.

I saw bits and pieces of it, I know you can build settlements but I thought it was more of single dwelling type thing (like your house in Megaton or the Apartment etc) I am meaning if you want to build a small town (like Little Big Town for example), it'd have limits of only a set amount of NPCS etc but I just thought it'd be cool if you ran into some NPCS / Merchant NPCs you could help them out and send them to your dwelling etc - Unless I missed that part

This is going to be the first time I get a special edition since Morrowind.

Will this be worth some money as a collectors item? Also will they have a PC package like this?

You can tell, especially in the 3rd person videos, that it looks a lot like Skyrim.

They were already dead, I just set them free.

Was a nice apt....

I could blow up Megaton. The only evil thing I could do was sell the little girl from Little Lamplight to the slavers. I just couldn't trick her to go outside..

I have never played any of the fallout games, are there human enemy's or is it all mutants?

If you don't open it and the demand for it in the future says it is a collectors item it will probably worth something. That's the thing about these things. First the PS4/XB1 has to work and be collectible and then the fallout franchise has to be collectible(this game in particular).

Companions are immortal...doesn't matter if it's a dog or human companion, they won't die...they wouldn't confirm or deny if companions level up...

At least we know there won't be a puppies perk.

You fight raiders and shit too. You'll have the option of killing friendly humans as well if you're an asshole

Companions are useless anyways. I never use them, they are just a distraction to me. Feels like I'm cheating also (infinite respawning tank/distraction) and these games are easy enough solo you don't need a companion or pet. I gotta admit though when I used Fawkes just to try him out (and also finish that one Vault that was irradiated), it was pretty awesome seeing him with his gatling laser. I used Raul for a bit in NV too but got rid of him. Mostly though just cause he was a cool ghoul with a Magnum .357 and voiced by the badass Danny Trejo.

thats kinda stupid..

He reason...

"[The dog] does not die, because we realize that's automatic re-load," Howard said. "We like to make the game where the only scenario where you re-load is your own death. So, like a lot of open world games, they'll have it where 'you failed this mission, go ahead and press "A" to redo it.' We don't ever want to do that. So, we've got to handle all failstates and some of those we have to do like, 'Okay, the dog can't die, because you're just going to re-load.'"

Additionally, Howard explained that having companions along for the ride in Fallout 4 was entirely up to the player, because the team wanted to retain the same sense of choice featured in previous Bethesda open-world RPGs.

"Like everything else, it's entirely optional. So, you can have a companion with you and it can be the dog, it could be other characters we haven't shown yet," he said. "Or, you could have no companion."

I strongly prefer to have a companion in RPGs. Even if they aren't overly helpful it feels like more of an adventure with another person or people following along. I understand why people would prefer to go solo but I like having the option of a companion

Dogmeat was awesome. Didn't meet him on my first playthrough but was hooked almost immediately when I found him in the junkyard during my second. He made the game more immersive, imo. Having to constantly worry about him also added to the game's tension.

My thing is that I don't care if it's the same stuff. At some point it'll get old, but not with this release. I am replaying Fallout 3 for like the bazillionth time and it still is addicting.

Hopefully the companions are not like the ones in Skyrim, which were awful. New Vegas had really good companions with some actual backstory and personality.

Well, on the other hand, the companion should bring something to the story. Maybe few lines or a side quest or two?

Fallout 3 companions were totally over the top with their fighting skills and very boring otherwise. NV was a step up for sure with it's wheel and storylines, but having companions in Fallout 1 & 2 (especially 2) was almost a no-brainer as the game is very difficult to beat without them.

IMO It's ideal to compensate lack of certain skills with a certain companions (lockpick-Katja, repair-Vic, doctor-Lenny, science-Myron etc.).. We'll see how it goes with F4 if they actually remove the skills..

Starting a new file. Had another save on my laptop with mods but only got about 10 hours or so in. Doing a new file on my PC and not gonna fuck with mods at the moment, partialyl becasue I like when Steam saves my playtime lol

Skyrim has NOTHING to do with Fallout 4. They ported Skyrim to try it out and THEN they made Fallout 4 compatible with next gen.

Fo4 is not built on top of Skyrim.

The reason it's relevant is because Fo4 is built in the Skyrim engine (The Creation Engine) so if they got Skyrim working, etc. Well there you go.

I tried out afew companions in Fallout 3 and they always seemed to get stuck in objects and the environment. Plus you would get sick of hearing their lines over and over again. That ghoul Charon only had a handful of lines.

Yeah but the click bait is to make it seem Like they took skyrim and put fallout 4 in it

I don't mind companions, I'd love something like the Deathclaw Commander mod from NV.

Hell, thinking about it makes me want to start up a new file.
