So guys, I have a question!

In class today me and some guy got a stripe on our belts so naturally we rolled after class and I got him in a arm triangle.

I could see him want to tap then he went limp so I kinda freaked out and I left the choke and was going to call our instructor. He then rolled me over and it kinda pissed me off because next time he goes limp I mite not let go of a hold and he can get seriously injured.

So I guess my question is....

Do i let him and our instructor know it's not safe? Or do I just not roll with this cat? Or! Just hold until he really passes out?!

I was so upset he did that shit I have to be honest not because he rolled me after I still ended up tapping him but it just seems like a shitty thing to do.

Am I wrong.

Thanks m8s

Next time he pretends to pass out, just start acting like you're about to begin fucking him in the ass. He'll drop the act real quick.

Never too late to start pegging I guess, I'll try that thanks

Are you sure he was doing it intentionally? I would make sure he knew what he was doing and it wasn't him almost going out and then waking up or you misreading it. Basically talk to him, and if he did it on purpose tell him to cut it out because it's scary and unsafe, it's training not competition with a ref etc.

If that doesn't work then bring it up with someone else, yeah.

If that's what he really did then it's stupid move. Obviously you cannot risk holding a choke if there are signs of unconsciousness, no matter how many times he's cried wolf, because you don't want to end up in prison for manslaughter. If he does it again you need to have a word with him and tell him he can't do that and then take it to the instructor if he doesn't stop.

thats creepy. dont roll with him anymore. and if you have to then make sure to tell him at the beginning of the roll that you dont want him to do that

Worth considering he may not have done it on purpose. Fairly common in my experience for people to go out for a moment , not realise, and come to still fighting.

Some guys apply the death squeeze but the choke is not on. From there, many times the only thing you can do is relax and wait it out.

next time hold the choke for 3 or 4 min just to make sure. report back in 6-8 years when you are released and let us know how it worked out.

Yea i dont squeeze to hard when we roll for that reason I don't want to hurt a classmate so I just hold it kinda loose. That's why I kinda freaked when he went limp because I didn't squeeze. Once I let go a little bit he jumped up and tried to escape.

Has anyone ever met a douche of this nature?

Remind yourself that this is training. Always err on the side of safety first. I would suggest asking your partner if he was out at any point. If he/she was faking it, then I suggest telling them it's not cool to mess around with safety. It takes the fun and trust out of training.

I 100% agree I honestly don't feel like rolling with this guy he's a grown man and did some childish stuff. It did take the fun out of the whole night

I've done this unintentionally when I was a white belt. Getting caught in an arm triangle which wasn't completely on, and when I tried to relax and keep calm while figuring out my next step, my partner thought I was out and released me. I didn't jump on the opportunity like you describe, though. Are you sure this was some kind of ploy from him, and not just a misunderstanding?

Are you rolling with this guy?

It's not like that tactic is going to get him anywhere in tournament/MMA competition.

100% he did it to get me to let go he went limp and laid flat then tried to push me off

It's the jump-at-the-opportunity-part that leaves me puzzled, because even if he was just relaxing and the triangle wasn't closed correctly, he should have

1) defended or look like he was ready to defend
2) known that you weren't going to simply let go without adjusting position (it happens at times to just let go of a hold if the person caught grunts or something so you can check on them, especially white belts. The difference when one just let's go because they are stopping from the one when they abandon a hold to transition is usually quite evident, even to people with limited experience).

talk to him, but if turns out he really did it I would seriously consider if I wanted to roll with this guy, because he could some more stupid tricks up his sleeve and those may hurt the people he rolls with, not just himself

Another question I thought if....

How do i go about saying I don't want to roll with him?

Do I tell him personally or tell the instructor? And what about that awkward vibe when I let it be known he's someone I rather not roll with.

Any experience with that?

I had this happen when I was visiting another place. The guy was squeezing with all his bicep strength on a RNC that wasn't under my chin or across my face (safe hands and shrugging FTW) and I just chilled like I was on the couch watching TV. After a while he goes "are you ok" and I'm like "yup, just letting you burn your arms out" then he let go lol.
