I agree. Fuck these dustbags. They have had their time. Also, Biden is wearing a hair piece.

lol at those long ass strands.

Whatever their differences, the two front-runners in the Democratic presidential race, Joe Biden, born November 20, 1942, and Bernie Sanders, born September 8, 1941, share one common trait: They are too old to be president.

Biden, leading the Real Clear Politics average of polls, will be 78 years old on inauguration day 2021. Sanders, number two in the field, will be 79. Both would be older upon taking office than Ronald Reagan was when he left office after two terms.

Voters are clearly open to older candidates. President Trump, born June 14, 1946, is the oldest president ever to take office — 70 years old on inauguration day, a few months older than Reagan when he took power. And of course, Trump defeated Hillary Clinton, born October 26, 1947, who, had she won, would have been the same age as Reagan, 69, upon taking office.

Americans elect a president with the understanding that he or she might serve eight years. If that were the case with a President Sanders, he would be 87 years old on leaving office, and a President Biden would be 86.

There's no doubt both are vigorous men. But having a president pushing 90 would be a new experience in American politics.

According to actuarial tables maintained by the Social Security Administration, the life expectancy of a 70 year-old man is 14.30 years — enough time to serve two terms and move on to physical decline. The life expectancy of a 78 year-old man is 9.33 years — enough to last two terms and not a lot more. The life expectancy of a 79 year-old man is 8.77 years — barely enough to make it out of the White House.

I'd bet on them out living Trump in a death pool.

Let age be near the bottom of the list of reasons...

No. It matters. Warren Buffett is in his early 80s and still has a good mind, though he says it is not as sharp as it used to be, but I still wouldn't want him as President even though he would be a good one. Buffett has literally said his mind is going. He can't do what he used to do. He was born with a very good mind.

One thing going for Trump is he is straightedge and always has been. No drinking, smoking or drugs. That was one of his pet peeves of business, there was too much drinking. I think it fits with his personality. A lot of people who don't get drunk do it because they don't want to lose control. It is a control issue. Control freaks.

It would make more sense to have upper limit on presidential candidate than lower limit

I get why you don’t want some young naive 20 year old running the country (I would actually increase the voting right age to 25), but whats wrong with 30 year old?

By that time majority of ppl are mature nuff n let’s face it, immature ones won’t get that far anyway.

As for upper limit...

It should be 60. As you can see all those politicians who are around 70 are showing signs of senility.

60 + 2 terms = 68. Perfect age for retirement

"Ugh, I'm so sick of old white guys in politics!"
*Biden and Sanders are the front-runners at 77 and 78, respectively*

To be fair, though, it's not like the president is reflective of the actuarial figures, due to selection bias in their sample. The president is going to have access to literally any hospital or drug or doctor he wants, so that's got to help. Simultaneously, I don't know how you are supposed to have such a stressful job without being in at least decent shape.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. They get checked up more than the average guy that age for sure. Plus immediate medical attention. Bush Jr almost died choking and had to be saved. Wish I had their team.

Doesn't matter.

When 80% of the electorate is low info AF, name recognition is King.

Obama was probably the least known candidate in the modern era, and he was still a political rock star way before 08.

while I agree age is a factor, it shouldn't be determinate. Buffet is an extremely successful person but no barometer. He's beyond unique and generally a black swan or white crow or whatever.

The same argument was made by John McCain. It's an issue... but not one that I think has to be a deciding factor. Especially if the VP is a solid choice. McCain chose a terribly annoying running mate. I still cant stand to hear her talk.

Ooo edgy take. Old guys are old.

The unfortunate issue is that there is a very real and understandable tendency to deny or ignore any decline, while at the same time more and more people are getting well into old age while retaining pretty much all their faculties. We can't really know who is who yet. I wouldn't take that chance with the POTUS.

I'm not worried about how long they will live. I'm worried about how sharp their minds are and their ability to learn new things (Trump included)

I agree and I would say it about everyone over 60 which obviously includes the current president.

Simultaneously, I don't know how you are supposed to have such a stressful job without being in at least decent shape.
Clinton, W Bush, and Obama all looked 15 years older after their tenures as presidents. Seems like a real grind. Not sure Trump has got another 4 in him.

Trump is a different breed of crazy. He feeds off contentiousness.
