Fabricio Werdum with Ramzan Kadryov

Kadyrov is quite obviously a POS but nobody in the US cares about him so it won't matter. Remember the outrage when Ali fought Foreman under the patronage of an African dictator with a terrible human rights record? Me neither.

that is a valid point. The phillipines during the thrilla in manilla were also governed by a kleptocrat who stole more than 20 billion dollars from the phillipines. Not to mention they were arranged by Don King, a man who has killed at least two people as well.

What the hell is Bar Hari doing out there?

I think him and this Kadryov guy are actually good mates. I think they hang out quite a bit, heaps of pics online of those two together.

Would you talk shit if Werdum was hanging out with the Obama, who presides over Guantanamo Bay and orders drone strike assassinations?

here is a photo on Werdum instagram of him and chechen leader Ramzan Kadryov. If you do not know he is the war lord ruler of Chechnya and has a pretty brutal human rights record. In the past A list celebs such as Sandra Bullock have been shamed for performing at his parties for millions of dollars.

Is this a risky move for Werdum/ the UFC in general to be associating with a warlord when the general public still views MMA with suspicion?

EDIT: Adding some info on Kadryov because apparently sherdog doesn't follow eurasian politics.

I think he is a warlord because he defeated the Chechen insurgents for putin with his own personal army. I believe people call them Kadryovites or something along those lines. They are loyal only to him and have no offical position in either the Russian state or chechen republic. He also taxes all Chechens an additional 20% on their wages, which is "donated" to a "philanthropic" foundation named after his father who was originally a chechen insurgent during the first chechen war. This foundation is thought to support his extremely lavish life style. He has also been accused of ordering assassinations inside and outside of Russia including vienna. He essentially built his own castle with a zoo and everything. A documentary I watched made him seem more pablo escobar than legit politician. He also maintains several off the books prisons, including a dungeon in his personal residence. People routinely disappear in chechnya as well.

He has created a cult of personality using instagram and traditional soviet tactics such as large images of himself in every public space.

He also loves boxing and MMA and is often photographed during boxing practice.

You are right

It's incredibly odd

I was surprised with werdum

People would flip out of it was uday Hussein son of sadam or any of the Hussein family or gaddaffi

Takes five seconds on Google to turn up some horrific truths about this Chechen guy

Disturbing as fuck that mma fighters are cool with that

Kadyrov is awesome. why do you think he's a 'war lord'? it's war, people are gonna die. deal wid it
So you must love sadam Hussein Then

Big supporter of Osama too clearly

"War is war bro"

Lol learn some history dude

wiki has its section just listing his human rights abuses including murder and rape

The tldr crowd won't reads it but the others with intact brains might

Kadyrov has been personally implicated in several instances of torture and murder. A number of Chechens opposed to Kadyrov have been assassinated abroad, and several witnesses (including Artur Kurmakaev and Ruslan Khalidov) report the existence of a 300-name "Murder List".[35] Chechens who have been murdered, where Kadyrov's involvement is suspected, include Movladi Baisarov and Ruslan Yamadaev (both Moscow);[35] Sulim Yamadaev (Dubai);[35] Gazhi Edilsutanov, Islam Dzahnibekov, Ali Osaev (Istanbul);[35] and Umar Israilov (Vienna).[35]

Kadyrov claims (in December 2009) that he had personally helped many of the murder victims and their families and was not their enemy. "I don't want to kill, who did I fight? I fought terrorists. Who did I protect? I protected the whole of Russia so that people in Moscow or St. Petersburg...could live in peace. They accuse me of killing women and children. It's not true."[27]

  • A mutinied commander, Movladi Baisarov, said that Kadyrov "acts like a medieval tyrant. If someone tells the truth about what is going on, it's like signing one's own death warrant. Ramzan is a law unto himself. He can do anything he likes. He can take any woman and do whatever he pleases with her. (...) Ramzan acts with total impunity. I know of many people executed on his express orders and I know exactly where they were buried".[36] On 18 November 2006, Baisarov was killed in an ambush by members of Kadyrov's police on Moscow's Leninsky Prospekt, about two kilometres from the Kremlin.
  • On 13 November 2006, Human Rights Watchpublished a briefing paper[37] on torture in Chechnya that it had prepared for the 37th session of the United Nations Committee Against Torture. The paper covered torture by personnel of the Second Operational Investigative Bureau (ORB-2), torture by units under the effective command of Ramzan Kadyrov, torture in secret detentions and the continuing "disappearances". According to HRW, torture "in both official and secret detention facilities is widespread and systematic in Chechnya". In many cases the perpetrators were so confident that there would be no consequences for their abuses that they did not even attempt to conceal their identity. Based on extensive research, HRW concluded in 2005 that forced disappearances in Chechnya are so widespread and systematic that they constitute crimes against humanity.
  • Anna Politkovskaya, a veteran Russian reporter (murdered in 2006; case unsolved as of February 2016) who specialised in Chechnyan reporting, claimed that she had received a grainy video footage shot on a mobile phone of a man identical in appearance to Ramzan, saying that "[the clips were the murders of federal servicemen by the Kadyrovites, and also kidnappings directed by Kadyrov.[38] These are very serious things; on the basis of this evidence a criminal case and investigation should follow. This could allow this person to be brought to justice, something he has long richly deserved," she said. She was allegedly working on an article revealing human rights abuses and regular incidences of torture in Chechnya at the time of her murder.[15] Some observers alleged that Kadyrov or his men were possibly behind the assassination.[39]
  • On 23 October 2006, a criminal case was registered on the basis of the video tape frames published by the Novaya Gazeta newspaper in Anna Politkovskaya's article. Sergey Sokolov, deputy editor-in-chief of the paper, told the Echo Moskvy Radio that it can be clearly seen in the video as to how "Kadyrov's military forces are beating federal soldiers" with participation of "a man looking like Ramzan Kadyrov".[40] On 7 October 2006, Politkovskaya was found shot dead in an elevator in her apartment in Moscow.
  • The Memorial group investigator stated in its report: "Considering the evidence we have gathered, we have no doubt that most of the crimes which are being committed now in Chechnya are the work of Kadyrov’s men. There is also no doubt in our minds that Kadyrov has personally taken part in beating and torturing people. What they are doing is pure lawlessness. To make matters worse, they also go after people who are innocent, whose names were given by someone being tortured to death. He and his henchmen spread fear and terror in Chechnya. (...) They travel by night as death squads, kidnapping civilians, who are then locked in a torture chamber, raped and murdered".[42]
  • According to the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights,[43] many illegal places of detention exist in the Chechen Republic; most of them are run by Kadyrovites. In Tsentaroy (Khosi-Yurt), where the Kadyrovite headquarters is located, there are at least two illegal prisons functioning. One consists of concrete bunkers or pillboxes, where kidnapped relatives of armed Chechen fighters are held hostage while the second prison in Tsentaroy is evidently located in the yard — or in immediate vicinity — of the house of Ramzan Kadyrov.
  • A video leaked out in which armed men, loyal to Kadyrov, displayed the severed head of a Chechen guerrilla (who was killed in July 2006) for public display in the village of Kurchaloi, marking the brutality of his forces. They mounted the head on a pipe, together with blood-stained trousers and put a cigarette on him. It was displayed for at least a day as they came back a day later to record it again.[47] On 21 September 2005, a similar incident occurred, as published by Memorial as well as Kavkazky Uzel which described "shocking details" of a special operation conducted by forces loyal to Ramzan Kadyrov.[48]
  • On 1 March 2007, Lyudmila Alexeyeva, the head of the Moscow Helsinki Group rights organisation, stated that Kadyrov was "to blame for kidnappings of many innocent people. Their bodies were found later with signs of torture."[49]
  • Umar Israilov was assassinated in Vienna on 13 January 2009. Israilov was a former Kadyrov bodyguard, who cooperated with The New York Times, extensively detailing abuses committed by Kadyrov and his associates. Israilov had told Austrian authorities in 2008 that he had been threatened by an agent sent by Kadyrov to drop his lawsuit against the Chechen leader at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, France.[50] On 27 April 2010, the Austrianprosecutor’s office announced that they believed Ramzan Kadyrov had ordered the kidnapping of Israilov and Israilov had been murdered while attempting to escape. According to the investigation, there was evidence that Otto Kaltenbrunner (adopted name of Ramzan Edilov), one of the suspected kidnappers, had been in contact with Kadyrov personally. Kadyrov's office denied the accusations.[51][52]
  • On 15 July 2009, Natalia Estemirova, a member of Memorial society, who investigated the alleged abuses by government-backed militias in Chechnya, was abducted and shot to death.[53] Memorial's chairman Oleg Petrovich Orlov accused Kadyrov of being behind the murder,[54] and claimed that Kadyrov had openly threatened her by saying: "Yes, my arms are up to the elbows in blood. And I am not ashamed of that. I have killed and will kill bad people".[55] Kadyrov denied any involvement in the killing and promised to investigate the killing personally. He condemned the killers, and in response to Orlov's accusations, said: "You are not a prosecutor or a judge therefore your claims about my guilt are not ethical, to put it mildly, and are insulting to me. I am sure that you have to think about my rights before declaring for everyone to hear that I am guilty of Estemirova's death."[56] It was later reported that Kadyrov would be suing Memorial for defamation and slander, targeting Orlov personally with his complaint.[56][57]
On 31 January 2016, Kadyrov posted a video of Russian opposition politicians Mikhail Kasyanovand Vladimir Kara-Murza in the crosshairs of a gun on his Instagram blog.[58][59] In a few days after multiple complaints Instagram removed the video prompting Kadyrov to criticize the decision: "This is the much-boasted freedom of speech in America! You can write anything but cannot touch those American dogs, those friends of the Congress and the State Department" [60]

Americans care a lot about Osama, Hussein, gaddaffi, Putin,

This Chechen guy is up there in that hall of fame

Im pretty sure half of the UFC roster have already hung out with the guy.

This, Kadyrov has been inviting combat sports stars for a few years now and Werdum has been several times in Chechnya. I went to one of his seminars and he asked to take a video of all of us greeting for Kadyrov, I didn't want to make a fuss about it so I simply stood silent outside the frame. I still think it's disappointing that they associate themselves with someone that most human rights NGO consider as a ruthless dictator. On the other hand, I know that UFC fighters don't meet him for political reasons, but for money and the recognition of a leader that cares more about their sport than their own President.

Kadyrov is awesome. why do you think he's a 'war lord'? it's war, people are gonna die. deal wid it

And why should a UFC fighter from Brazil be hanging out with him? Typical ignorant post from an ignoramus.

Kadyrov is a murderer and "former" terrorist. Also a traitor to both peoples he claims to represent, ironically enough. A murderer of Russians who turned murderer of Chechens once he and his coward father realized the war wasn't going their way. People are abducted or murdered in Chechnya all the time for thoughtcrimes. Not terrorists, just critics. Dissenters are publicly embarrassed on television and their families menaced. Zero respect for Werdum. Meeting a bad guy once is forgivable, but he is bffs with this psycho.

We'll see what's in store for Ramzan in the next few years. He's getting bold these days, posting pics of opposition politicians in a set of crosshairs, making lots of enemies, pissing off the neighboring Ingush...

How is he awesome? What a pathetic world view.

I wish people like you would just go extinct, unfortunately there is no cure for stupid.

Which guy from bahrain? I know that a younger prince from Abu Dhabi owns 10% of the UFC as well as sponsoring the Abu Dhabi Grappling competition. He is part of a dictatorial family but he himself is not a dictator.

Putin is really into MMA and could be considered a dictator but other than that I cannot think of any political figures that try as hard as Kadryov to enmesh themselves into the world of prize fighting.
It's Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al Nahyan that is the driving force behind mma/ grappling in the UAE / Abu Dhabi. He's a bjj black belt as well.

Flash entertainment(subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi government) is the entity that owns 10% of the ufc

Chris Weidman was over their not to long ago, IIRC.

look at the HUGE size difference between Badr and Mir and Werdum. My goodness he is an absolute speciman. That looks like Zabit SAmedov next to him, tjat guy actually ko'd Badr.

Spot on. When/if he starts getting too big for his boots or steps out of line, Putin will pull the lever.
