^&*^*&^*&^*@#$#$#$#@$!!!!! F**k!!!!

This poor dog is a burden waste to him, fuck knows how he fathered children who funded the surgery when he was not giving a fuck to keep it alive.
I can’t understand that. I paid more than twice that to give my cat another year, not because I’m rich, but because I loved him so much. I didn’t have the money. But I put it on a credit card and paid it off over time.

He was 10.

Ten years is not that old for a dog though. It’s pretty old for a cat but not that old for a dog.

because you aren't a heap of garbage and have a heart.
I spent hundreds on a pet mouse years ago that had mites and kept scrating to the point of nearly knocking her eye out. At 3am ish they did a sort of thing they do with cats and dogs like a lampshade for her.

That's backwards. Cats typically live longer than dogs, and for dogs... small breed usually outlive large breeds.

In your cat's extra year(s), if the cat was going to be suffering or in pain, if his quality of life was going to be shit... you'd keep it alive for an extra year because you love it?

You're doing that for you, not the cat.

He would rather have snuffed it out years ago had his children not paid for the surgery.

Otto has a lovely owner who doesn't beg his children to pay for his surgery because he just sees him as "just a dog".

Since you seem to like talking about my children so much, know this. They're all doing quite well. Families of their own, careers, all finished school, none in prison, none on welfare. I know, I know, goes totally against what you were hoping for... sorry to disappoint.

They are all grown adults, and were in their 20's when they collectively decided to pay for it. They made a choice, just as I would have, and they were all made well aware in advance by the professional that the surgery was a gamble, and the odds were not good.

I begged no one. People in life sometimes have to make difficult choices, and my reasoning isn't because I don't love my pets or I don't care, but please, try to paint the picture that makes you feel good about yourself.

Did you think I was just going to take him out back and Old Yeller him too?

This explains everything.

Have a good day Karen.

He was not in pain. Don’t be an asshole.
Once he was suffering, I took him in to be euthanized. Hell, I didn’t even want him to suffer a trip to the vet because he hated that so much. So I scheduled someone to come to my house.
And they flaked (this was during Covid). So I, not wanting him to suffer for even one day, took him into the vet to be euthanized.

I don’t know about mice, but rats are actually great pets. I’ve had one. I imagine mice are similar.
