^&*^*&^*&^*@#$#$#$#@$!!!!! F**k!!!!

You wouldn't spend $4000 on "just a dog"? Did I read that correctly?
Sorry, I suppose I could have phrased that a little better.

No, I probably wouldn't put out $4k on a dog who is well into her senior years for that particular breed.

A pup or young dog, sure, wouldn't think twice about it. If I was fabulously wealthy, no problem. 10 year old shit-tzu or poodle? Still plenty of life left. But a Doberman, you start weighing your options a little more carefully. Large breeds don't live as long as small dogs.

Would I euthanize a dog if it was the most humane or least painful option? Sure would, and I'd probably cry while I held it as the dog slipped away. Been there, done that. But keeping a pet alive, when its quality of life isn't a promising outlook afterwards... no, I won't do that to a pet.

Yes, our dogs are very much well-cared for and are very much part of the family. But a big part of the reason we always had dogs were to also introduce our children (and grandchildren) to the concept of death.

If in this particular instance (three years later)... had the Doberman broken a hind quarter at 13 years old, yes... I would have put her to sleep. I've never enjoyed having to put a dog to sleep, but sometimes it's a necessary decision to make.

I feel your pain. My 5 year old cat went from fine to fucked up in the course of a few hours about a week ago. Turned out he had a uniary blockage and might have died by the next day. I knew something was wrong and took him to an emergency vet hospital at about 10pm. $3300 later he's home and doing well. Wish you the best of luck Sherbro.

So had your children not stepped up and paid for the dog's surgery they wouldn't have had a further 3 years and still going because you wanted to kill it. Correct?

You're a good pet owner, if you read deeper in the thread he's a hideous pet owner. I hope kitty is okay!!

Google says the average lifespan of a doberman pinscher is around 10-13 years 😳

He would rather have snuffed it out years ago had his children not paid for the surgery.

I'm sorry. Did I stutter? Did I offend your sensitivities? Next time a vet tells me it's a gamble, I'll just him some random Sherbroni said it'll be fine because he's an expert.

My cat got very sick two weeks ago. He’s still on steroids . In and out of the vet and two trips to the emergency hospital , the second time he had to stay over night … the steroids helped he’s doing much better but hates the medicine . Luckily I have pet insurance I think with vet and hospital it was around 5,000 … but they covered prolly 70% . Or repaid me about that anyways . Just glad he’s doing better … glad your dogs ok

Now I have to get him special food for hyper thyroid and he had/has pancreatitis .. the foods $60 a bag :( just glad he’s better though

You literally said your dog is "just a dog" and got your children to pay for the surgery. Correct? Your poor dog is still alive after you wanting to off him 3 years ago and you're worrying about my sensitivities? K, Noem.
