What is an Ezekiel Choke?

Alexey Oleinik defeated Sherman Pendergarst during the recent Yamma Pit Fighting using this. I didn't see the event, but saw the result list as such.

I found this on you tube, but it's hard to see the technique.

Thanks for the reply. I did try a search, but nothing came up. I've notice that most of my Sherdog searches come up unsuccessful.

to be honest I no longer use the sherdog search function, but use google to search the forum.

For example putting into the google search box the following:
site:sherdog.net ezekiel

looks for the word ezekiel within what google knows about the sherdog.net website. Or you can always fill otu the google advanced search page. http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en
There's a tiny little link to it to the right of the text box. Enjoy.

Gathering from the other posts, the Ezekiel choke has a low success rate with no gi. No surprise to see Pendergarst fall to it. From what I remember about him he is a good wrestler, but his sub game is par.

Can anyone name any other MMA matches that have won by Ezekiel?

Yoshida beat Tank Abbot with a similar technique in a Gi. It really is a low-percentage move without the gi, unless you have long arms and someone who gives up their neck easily.

I would say that is almost useless against a trained opponent even with a gi and without gi or longsleeved rashie it is impossible.

That being said I've seen lots of newbs get burned with it, including me, when I was a newb...

Yes it is. and can be use to protect a low mount. Keeps their hand off of your hips.

I was surprised to see that technique pulled of in an MMA fight. When I finally took time to think about it logically I realized that probably the worst part of this move is the fact that it would be easy to upa and escape the mount. It was a high risk maneuver (when not using the gi) that worked because his opponent didn't know what to do (IMO).
