Eyepokes should be mandatory point deductions. No exceptions.

i say implement this little thingy for punishing eye pokes.

Nope
Were past that point. Way past. Any foul of any kind, intentional or not, automatic point.
First (and only) warning is in the dressing room
No more fucking around
lmao

no prize fighting sport is or will ever be, like this

they didnt even disqualify Mike Tyson for biting a piece of Evander's ear off. They kept it going til he bit him again

Millions of dollars were at stake.

I pretty much agree with the exception of nut shots. Those come with the territory and putting that drastic of a penalty would severely reduce the amount and effectiveness of kicking techniques in the sport.

On the other hand eye pokes and cage grabs are not a natural result of legitimate techniques. You can effectively open hand parry your opponent's strikes and even use extended arm techniques without pointing your fingers forward and pushing them into their eyes. Those fouls will disappear extremely fast once they start costing points.

- First foul = warning (unless blatantly intentional)
- Second & third foul = 1 point each.
- Anything after DQ.

You're being intentionally obtuse. There was a forward motion of the arm. That's why it was there for Cejudo to run into. Did Song move his arm forward during the poke? No, but I never argued that he did. The whole point of adding that rule is to prevent fighters from placing their hand and fingers in a place where a poke is likely to occur, but you already know that.

Yadong definitely had his arm moving forward. Look at the elbow in the first sequence. Then it is as obvious in the second sequence.

This is a sport where if you lose, you only get half your money.

lol @ mandatory point deductions.

Ive seen a million eyepokes and most of them werent worth deducting a point over.

NJ commission has a specific wording in their rules that says something like how a DQ can be issued if fouls are intentional / flagrant as usual but also if there were 3 consecutive fouls. Never gets used though. At least not for the big leagues, but I'm sure some minor, near amateur-level fights happening in East Bumfuck, NJ might see a DQ for it
I wish more commissions would follow NJ’s lead but not only in writing. I wish they would enforce it as well. The only thing that makes this situation not as bad is the fact that Song was most likely going to win even if no eye poke happened. But still, in mma nothing is guaranteed.

Teh finger jab should be legalised.

I get that the refs don't want to be looked at as the ones who decide the outcome of a fight, but yeah...do your damn job.

I always think back to Stefan Struve vs. Ben Rothwell...Struve got blasted in the nuts twice, once in the first round, once in the second...and these weren't glancing blows...then good ol' Dan Miragliotta decides to take a point from Rothwell (which he absolutely should have) but then decides to get in a recovering Struve's ears and tell a fighter who had no business continuing to fight that he was "probably winning" but if the fight stopped it would go to a NC and there was only 1:14 left in the round. So Struve doesn't want the NC and he's "probably winning" and gets KTFO'd with 3 seconds left in the round.

just have yellow card for all infractions. First two financial penalty. Third point deduction. Fourth big financial penalty. Fifth disqualification.

Knowing you get one free eye poke warning means make that one count. Then beat on the half blind opponent. Eye pokes are worse than a glancing dick kick and should get a point automatically. Make fighters train to not stick fingers out
