When a movie bombs because of perceived wokeness, that isn't a small population. Barbie was never targeted towards anyone that would care about being woke. It has a built in audience already. Some people do go overboard with calling everything woke, but you have dishonest posters in here on the other side that say it never happens and call everyone racist or homophobes for any criticism people have. When you take beloved properties and hire writers and directors that publicly state they are going to make things as woke or gay or diverse as possible, that will tank said project. It is ok to call out bullshit on both sides. Race and gender swapping just to make something diverse is bullshit. Creating something organically diverse (Andor comes to mind) is woke proof. At the end of the day, people will watch ad like what they want. History has shown that pandering, and agenda driven crap does not succeed.
 
The trick is to hide the wokeness just a little bit. The dummies are too stupid to figure it out unless it is broadcast in their faces. James Cameron has been getting his message across and making bank all these years.
 
I find Hollywood movies so bland and uninteresting these days. I think I was lucky in that when I was a kid movies felt overwhelmingly original which of course makes sense because it's like when you first start watching movies it probably takes less to amaze you and a lot of plots are reskinned and recycled, BUUUUUUUT I also feel like the idea of the reboot/remaster wasn't a thing, and people kinda need to start doing things like reboots or bringing back old franchises for mediocre installments when they are running out of ideas.

From the little I know, it seemed what kind of fell more in favor was essential reboots but with diverse casting etc. Redoing some fairy tales and old movies or historical events, but with lesbians or whatever minority now in a lot of the main or supporting roles instead of what was the original cannon, and changing the villains around to give symbolism of the evil white patriarchy as what needs to be defeated.

I reckon it's pretty hard to define a "woke movie" concisely, but it's largely a judgmental thing when you see it. When something breaks immersion, plot, logic, history and/or inserts a whole bunch of unnecessary garbate etc in what feels like an unnatural way simply to play to and for the gratification of post-modern far left politics it probably ought to be called a "woke movie".

I mean, taking Spartacus for example, if that got reboot featuring a 90 pound red-haired pansexual autist in a wheel chair slaying gladiators while extolling the virtues of equity and winning over a bunch of chinese people in the audience -- it would be a woke movie. Which actually makes me want to create an absurdly over-the-top parody movie called "Woke Movie".

I somewhat see what you are saying.

But so called wokeness is such a nebulous bullshit term, and overwhelmingly implies a certain intolerance, which is why most opponents of it, don't even attempt to define it.

The recent Superman movie has been labeled woke. Evidently the movie Prey was "woke" because it had a female protagonist. Captain Marvel was "woke". Barbie was unquestionably "woke".

The word is exclusively used as a pejorative by its opponents who understandably, can't clearly articulate what it means and overwhelmingly seems to mean "casting a non-white male character."

Creative properties bomb, creative properties prosper, some "woke" more non-woke

But of the top grossing films of all times, they are or have elements of so called "wokety-wokeness" or produced by an infamously wokey company.


There is just community of certain people, who just dont want to see people that dont look like them in media even as the world gets smaller and are angry because of this.

I can see your points. And some of these folks are asshats. Especially concerning things I will never watch anyway---Snow White or The Little Mermaid? I would have never watched; they weren't made for me. I don't care Barbie was woke, why would I think I was the target audience? Did it cost them hundreds of millions? Yes, but so what? Not my money. But take Disney-It was bad enough that they had to address it--so contrary to the deniers, it WAS and IS an issue. Bob Eisner said creators "lost sight of their main objective, which is to entertain". He said they would quiet the agenda driven bullshit. Although he lied.

I guess the desperation to claim them as "woke" projects will die on its arse now unless the side that proposed the patently false proposition in the OP are looking to add more fuel that disproves their argument - not that any more fuel is required at this point

Woke nonsense in movies, TV and entertainment has basically annihilated many of the formerly money-printing machine and insanely popular franchises
