Exposing the Grift: Go Woke Go Broke

By your own definition, you're the biggest culture war loser on here because you're the one who made a thread about this.

This is up there in terms of self-own threads.
Some people are so married to their politics and the need to believe their unpopular world view is the right and popular one that they just can't admit the obvious:

Prioritising californian identity politics bs over making good in everything you do is destroying entertainment

Look at the numbers and financial disaster around Ubisoft, star wars, Marvel etc recently. Or you know, keep denying reality....

I mean I guess I can see this point of view. But at the same time I'm also ethnically Asian and it doesn't bother me one bit. I'd probably laugh my ass off if I was playing this game
Bit racist to assume Asia is one homogenous gloop.

Honestly if you were doing a purely financial analysis of "fans we could gain in Japan for AC" versus a part of the US, it'd be in favor of the latter. Japan's market is Nintendo than everything else.
Seems they chased fans nowhere and their woke bs is destroying their company.

Maybe just fcuk off chasing audiences that don't exist with identity politics bollocks and do it purely for financial reasons of making a good game.

Just an idea if you don't want your business to fail.

Is it this guy?

Yes. He was a real person that almost certainly was granted the title of Samurai at the time. This was all known before the AC controversy and no one disputed it until this happened.

I think the choice for him to be one of the protagonists is a bad one, but the attempt to retcon history people have been making is also really annoying

Do people really care about this ? Whether it's Tom Cruise or some random black guy playing a Samurai why would anybody actually care lol
People dislike it because it s out of place and a Diversity plant, which is super annoying.

Just like if you had rainbow flags and Trans people in a civil war setting. I don‘t think anyone would lose sleep over it but it would be super annoying and gh34.

Team Khabib Nobunaga and Hasukebullah.

The biggest travesty is that you play a Samurai in a game about Assassins. Shouldn't you be playing a ninja?
You're about 10 years too late on that complaint. "Assassin's Creed" hasn't been very "assassin-y" for quite some time. Ever since "Unity" failed, they moved the franchise in a more action RPG direction. You played a friggin' Viking in the last game, LOL.

Kunoichi. Yes, she's a playable character. Which is weird af looking at gameplay/trailers. She's all ninja warrior while running in broad daylight at a street market.

It already stretches plausibility that you're a massive black guy standing a head above everyone else. Assassins are supposed to blend in and be undetectable. There's no "dash off, put up your hood, and blend in with some monks" after killing someone in this game.

As I understand it, the "fact" that Yasuke was a samurai is the real retcon. There seems to be no historical evidence of him being anything other than a retainer/bodyguard. Almost all of the details of him being a samurai come from one book by one person written in 2019. (You can even see on Wikipedia lines like "according to historians..." which go on to cite only that person.)

The actual historical record of Yasuke is sparse and ambiguous, and what you describe as "all known and undisputed" is really just the collective acceptance of one person's baseless extrapolation and supposition.

Assuming that's what happened, that would be like reason 474937 that Ubisoft is going down the shitter. Company hasn't made good games in lord knows how many years.

My understanding is that AC games are usually pretty true to the culture of that game, and the upcoming one seems to fly in the face of that precedent by making a black foreigner the protagonist of a game set in Japan. Can you imagine the outcry if AC: Origins had a white protagonist, just some schmuck from England who happened to be visiting Egypt at the time? That would seems pretty culturally inappropriate and tone-deaf, wouldn't it?
I would not say they are true to culture beyond a visual level. And again, there is a Japanese protagonist for the game. If it was just a Yasuke game, sure, I'd get it. But It's not. I don't get the outrage

If the main story primarily follows the female lead as the driving force of the plot, this will all seem extra dumb lol.

I played the first one way back. I mean it was fun but the best part was running around, jumping into pots and destructible elements while NPC's reacted and made comments. I never imagined that it would turn into however many games they had. I played it once, and I felt like that was enough.

You monitor who likes which post? LMFAO.
There's a lot of clapping seals on here that likes any post that aligns with their world view or attacks a poster who goes against their world view.

Doesn't matter if the content of the post is logically invalid and retarded. "They are on 'my team' or attacking the 'other side' so I'll like it".

I find it quite tragic.

I have strong views on topics. If someone on the same side of the argument as me writes something dumb or that cannot be supported I don't just like it because it's getting one up on the other side. Guys like TS do this religiously though. Embarrassing stuff.

I think the most honest takeaway is that there are absolutely grifters, farming rage. There figures who don't really care about games and whether people enjoy them, they are interested in garnering clicks and subscriptions. But the phrase "go woke go broke" is absolutely real. It's not invariably true but there are huge projects that have been essentially rejected by the gaming community unanimously because of the blatant and transparent attempts to shove a very specific ideology into the game.
And it's not even that something is "woke", it's that very, very often, a pointed political idea becomes the focus of writing and direction. So the game ends up sucking not because they couldn't make a good game, but because they wanted to make a different kind of game.
There are games that have left-leaning political elements that are really good, and did very well. I don't think most people take issue with CyberPunk or TLoU2 because of "wokeness".

The impact of the latest release is clear and unambiguous
