I was told by sherdoggers that 41 at featherweight was a death sentence. Only possible at heavyweight. How is he still performing like that when all your speed and reflexes are supposed to arbitrarily leave you the second it strikes midnight on your 40th birthday. Incredible knockout.

What's also crazy about Cub Swanson is that he's 41 and has been in so many wars fighting with an aggressive style and has not once been knocked out cold in the UFC. Very Condit-esque, Joe.

(I think his only KO loss was the flying knee from Aldo in the WEC, and it didn't even knock him out he just covered up from the pain)

I can’t even remember him being dropped in the UFC from strikes to the head but he must have been at some point. I wonder what the stats are on that.

One of the most underrated chins in the FW division.

Edit: the only knockdown via head strikes in the UFC that I could find was from Moicano. From a jab of all things from a guy who has never knocked out anyone standing. Go figure

Helps that the UFC has given him reasonable opponents. It's almost beneficial if you are aging to not be such a huge name that you are headlining fights against killers, even when you are past your prime. If Cub was given the TFerg, Frankie, BJ, Chuck treatment he'd probably be 0-5 recently.

It's nice to see the old guys in winnable fights where they can still display their skills, even though the body is slowing down.

Cub is a beast though. Underrated in terms of skills and entertainment value.

this 100%. Jim Miller is also a part of this tier of fighter. Wonderboy too is able to fight lower comp most of the time.

5-7 in the last 7 years, its like two different careers if you look at it, before and from the Ortega fight.

This the perfect retirement party before he loses his next fight like he has been alternating wins with loses for years.

It happens. Even 40 year old Faber cracked one last chin at BW against Ricky simone.

Also, Cub Swanson was once a legit contender. Even if he's just 70 percent of what he once was he'd still be able to compete at the level of guys like billy q.

He had that fight where he was tortured by Frankie Edgar, that and the Jose Aldo KO are maybe the worst he’s ever looked.

it’s the PrideFC fan boys who set the notion of a fighters being “out of their prime” because of cope. Fedor was out of his prime at 31 and Shogun at 28. Now newer just repeat the same old thing when their favorites lose. Aldo was supposedly out of his prime close to a decade now, yet performing and getting a title shot in another weight class. Fighters reach a certain point where they still can be competitive if they take a step back from fighting S Class fighters to A and B to improve on some skills and adapt. That’s why so adamant on Volkanovski taking a step back from title shots and fighting someone lower end in the rankings to gain his confidence and improve on some of his skills.

Good chin and power, and fighting lower level competition. And even then it is not like he has been super dominant. He loses as much as he wins anymore

Great win but he fought a 36-year old who's 3-4 in his last 7 fights and at best a mid-level FW. It's possible for a 41-year old to have faster hands than a 36-year old. It was also a pretty wild fight that could've gone either way.

He seems to slow down quick each round, and then somehow get a second wind in that round and come on strong. Most old fellas just don't get that second wind.

Amazing KO.

War Cub.
Faber retired after Yan KO’d him.
