Examples of Technical Brawlers

I was coming here to post Wanderlei. It just looked like a violent whirlwind, but he'd set up shots, throw deadly accurate combinations, and use great footwork. He knew what he was doing and what he was doing took a lot of skill. He just executed with utter brutality.

This thread also can't go too far without shouting out Tank Abbott. He talked like he just wanted a sloppy bar brawl, but he had solid technique and would mix up his striking and wrestling very nicely to allow him to either throw bombs from a distance or crack you in close.
He also knew when to hang back and soften people up with leg kicks

Technical guys don't brawl, period. There are technical pressure fighters, who are in your face the whole time, cracking you, but always just out of reach. That's my favorite kind of fighter. Brawlers are sub-par technicians who eat too many shots.

PS: LOL at Wanderlei being technical

True, he did that well against Yoshida and also hit Rampage with some nice low kicks across their two PRIDE fights.

The only thing sadder than noobs who don't know anything is longtime fans who never learned anything. Do you really not think Wanderlei was a technically proficient striker? Do you think he just accidentally went undefeated for four years by mindlessly brawling and getting lucky with no technique?

It was working well in the third fight w Rampage also until the end.

Prime BJ Penn
Carlos Condit
JDM
John Lineker
Arguably Tom Aspinall

I love Rampage, but that fight still stings. At that point in their careers, Rampage had improved his boxing while Wanderlei had lost his durability and recovery. I wanted Wand to make one more run up the hill after axe murdering Keith Jardine. Alas, his time at the top was done ☹️

You don't know anything about me except my join date and the fact that I don't agree with your use of the word technical. Don't strawman me. Obviously, Wanderlei was not an unskilled bum ..but there are levels in the striking game and he simply was not 'a technical striker' (in my definition of the term: technically outstanding). While not technical, he was a formidable fighter because he was reasonably well rounded striker for that era, had extraordinary physical gifts and had one of the most professional teams of the time behind him.
