I have to agree, wrestling is the best base. A wrestler learns BJJ at an exponential rate so they can develop submission defense pretty quickly (except Chael of course). They can also pick up striking, all they have to do is be somewhat respectable enough at striking to supplement their already powerful base.
Nothing is more dangerous than a fighter that is capable of taking you down at any minute. You're too afraid to kick too wildly or leave yourself exposed to take downs, your striking game plan gets too conservative and you end up losing because the wrestler immediately took you out of your comfort zone.
That being said... I am hoping my son will like to wrestle. He wants to do kick boxing and boxing training, I can't say no.
