if mma has evolved so much why are high level wrestlers still the top prospects over more experienced, rounded fighters.

Because it's effective? I'm pretty sure someone who was more experienced and well rounded would be favoured over a one dimensional wrestler.

wrestling IS the best base. it will always be that way

Wresting allows you to dictate where the fight will be fought. Wrestlers have no other avenue to pursue a professional career in sports.

Unified Rules are heavily favorable for wrestlers

Because wrestlers have a grinding mental toughness that can't be taught in other disciplines, a wrestler with good hands and good submission defense is nearly impossible to defeat.

It's a great base and you can always develop a striking game later.

basics win fights. i was trying to make this point earlier to people that were trying to tell me how much better modern fighters are. people too often compare modern fighters to old broken fighters and say how much it has evolved since those days.

Unified rules.'i think top position should mean you are winning unless it is obvious you are not. I.e Hioki Vs Guida

Rewatched TUF 1.

Yes it has come a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way

Evolution is not based on the "best" winning as much as it is the "most well-suited." Maybe it is that wrestling - in the current MMA landscape - is simply the most well-suited skillset for the environment (based on judges' scorecards and the rules, I would say so).

Cause they are probably better athletes.

Take a high level football player n give 1 year training in mma n he will beat those high level wrestlers.

Wrestlers did really well in NHB and Pride rulesets. Judging is giving much less credence to takedowns lately.

Overlooked aspects include wrestlers having thousands of matches before an MMA fight. Mentally they are accustomed to having to face someone one on one and put every ounce that they have into it.

Another aspect, they haven't taken many(some play football) shots to the head yet.

You do not know that, so why state it? Absolutist tones are a real drag on discourse.

There are still strikers that are touted as top prospects, like Mein, Thatch and McGregor.

What is there to know? Look at UFC lhw champ n p4p no.1 fighter.

In less than 3 years he became the champ making veterans of the sport look like amateurs.

Now imagine if his brothers chose UFC instead of nfl?

Or if jj watt or Calvin Johnson chose UFC over nfl?

They would be champs within one year
