Television Everybody loves Raymond vs king of queens

Ray's mom & the way she is, too reminiscent of how my mama mia really is too.

Ray's dad is bad ass too haha.

Both Barone parents were jerks when it comes down to it. Frank was just flat-out, up front about it. Marie was sweet on the exterior at times but manipulative and very, very obnoxious toward Debra. Yet, to the show's credit, it made both of them endearing despite their flaws.

Frank was always hilarious. The episode where he and Ray have a ping pong rematch was always one of my favorites. Boyle's gloating was great.

Hell, King of Queens had a hysterical ping pong episode too where Doug and Carrie get the table- and Doug is horrified to find that both Arthur and Carrie can school him. He is particularly embarrassed about losing to his wife so he recruits Arthur to train him but he still gets schooled aside from one time where Carrie lets him win. Classic.

Just looked it up.

Carrie moves to an apartment without Doug, they get marriage counselling, then make pans to adopt a baby. They make a deal that Carrie will get rid of her apartment but she doesn't. Then they both race to China to get the baby first. Then Carrie finds out she's pregnant and and fast forwards a year to her and Doug struggling to raise two small children.

Sounds like a fukkin mess lol

It was also lame cause they fast tracked this strange storyline where Arthur is going to marry this former famous singer from back in the day but turns out she thinks he's gay and is looking for a sham marriage while he's actually obviously into her.

That leads to a bait and switch where Arthur marries Spence's mom (played by his real life wife). Hell, Stiller and Ann Meara were so good that they sold it pretty funny but overall it was very rushed and disjointed.

I love king of queens but Raymond is better. Both are hysterical

Raymond holds up really, really well and I may actually like it more now than I did even during the actual run.

Garrett was awesome on that show. Robert was probably my favorite overall character in terms of combining the humor and likability.

Great casting on Raymond. Change any actor out and the dynamic is lost. Raymond is a typical American family sitcom but it's fucking hysterical. And yeah Robert is great because he's such a sad sack. The modeling episode is one of the best.

Too hard to pick for me. Both great shows. In retrospect, they were two of the last of a dying breed.

He was a nice dude, articulate and sensitive but he was also really bitter about Raymond's success and, as you said, a sad sack for a large chunk of the series.

Amy was pretty great too. Could have seemed really transparent Rosenthal casting his wife on the show but she fit right in and I thought she was a big part of the last two seasons maintaining the standard of quality that had come before.

Raymond may be one of the only sitcoms I can think of that maintained a really high quality right through the last episode. You watch eighth and ninth season and some of the funnier episodes of the series are there- as you said, the modeling one is a key example.

Raymond: So you just track down the guys who did this.

Robert: (sarcastically) Oh yeah I can see the headlines- giant cop is giant schmuck!!

and great call on the dynamics between the cast. Everybody held up their end real well. Romano, Heaton, Garrett, Boyle, and Roberts all very, very good.

Only weird thing was just how much nonentities the kids were through many of the episodes, but Ray outright said from season 1 "it's not really about the kids" lol.

Put them up against any CBS sitcom since 2008 and it's not even fucking close. Complete mismatch in quality.

Arthur Spooner

Both are great shows, but Arthur puts KoQ over the top. I fear the day Jerry Stiller passes, he is a treasure

I just got done watching Ray's ping pong episode but what really made that episode is how his dad at the end broke down why he was a jerk to Ray whenever they competed. He was a survivor. He worked an endless series of bad jobs that he always got fired from after he came back from Korea. He eventually worked his way up to bookeeper but ping pong was the only thing that he was ever good at and he wanted to toughen up Ray for life. It was a moment that everyone has eventually where they see their parents as people just like everyone else, just a couple of people that has struggled at times to just keep their head above water and be a decent parents who were occasionally misguided.

Peter Boyle, the actor who played Frank Barone, was a really good actor. Everyone on that show could shift gears into something really serious and make it feel real.

I like both. I enjoyed both.

KOQ show ending sucked IMO so I give slight nod to everybody loves Raymond for better show during run.

Now how about watching reruns?

I take ELR with ease over KOQ. I feel ELR aged better then KOQ.

Thoughts?

Didn't watch much of either, but would pick King of Queens.

To me I laughed more for ELR.

Frank Barone n Red Foreman are GOAT sitcom dads along with Bundy lol

the one that has Leah Remini in it.

Hated them both. Total barrel scraping shite. They're so bad the fucking Big Bang Theory looks like a sit com compared to them. I especially hated that nasally guy's wife. What a miserable, joy killing cunt she was.

This should really be Peter Boyle vs Jerry Stiller.

IMO both shows are complete garbage.
I'd give Everybody Loves Raymond a 0/10 and King Of Queens a 1/10, and the only reason why I score one higher than the other is because Leah Remini is hot.

I really like both. I'd go with KOQ by a hair. Leah Remini in the early seasons was something else.

both these shows sucks more BBC's than the Kardashians.

I wouldn't say I'm a massive fan but Raymond has enough charm that its very hard to dislike that show, Can't say the same for King of Queens.
