Ever Trained With a Famous Fighter?

Trained with a bunch of pro's, but UFC guys:
- Stefan Struve
- Michael Kuiper
- Amir Sadollah

But I've only sparred with Michael Kuiper once, with the others I've never sparred. Michael Kuiper is impossible to take down, dude has sick hips.

I did a seminar with Eddie Bravo a year or so ago at 10th Planet London, and he was a pretty cool guy, he asked me how long I'd been training and I said it was my first day and his response was:
"First day, man you're meant to look retarded on your first day"

So I can live with myself knowing that while I may not have been good on my first day, I did not look retarded. :p

My sister had a boxing class with Kevin Mitchell as well when she was a little kid, as he went to the same primary school we did, so he came back every so often to teach the kids some stuff. And a friend of mine did a sparring session with Wanderlei Silva when he came to do seminars at the London Fight Factory, he's a pro kickboxer but he said Wanderlei kicked the shit out of him sparring

What about you guys? I imagine those of you going out to Thailand especially have some cool stories.

Many years on, I can update this and say that Damien Alamos kicked the shit out of me and will do again in the near future.

My old instructor...not sure how famous he is but Lerdsila is a former 3x Raja champ (115/118/122lbs) and came up with Saenchai at Jocky Gym when they were young. The first two gyms in the clip are where I used to train. Was blessed to be able to spar someone like that, even if I felt like a kid against him lol:

I realise you posted this a long time ago, but I have only thought to ask it NOW. How did Lerdsila balance teaching you with his own training?

many dont know if could count them all use t train with dustin

hes prob most famous mma fighter than i use to train with

Chael sonnen taught me how to scold a child and love a woman

Chibin Lim is my current trainer...I've sparred with him plenty of times over the past few years. just straight boxing, kickboxing, muay thai, and clinching. he's whooped my ass in all aspects...clinching with him is the most tiring though. his neck is damn strong

here's a clip of him when we were helping him train for his fight in Glory a couple years back

Wait...was that your video on FB that you posted?

Bump this thread in October and I'll tell you how it was to learn from Tom DeBlass.

This was some years back when he was still out here in Santa Clarita before moving back to Thailand...I don't remember him being that active (in terms of fighting) at that time. Seemed like he got a second wind/resurgence when he joined PTT.

I think he's got a couple of seminars out here in So Cal next month, so I'll try to get some vids (and maybe have some beer and Thai food with him again lol).

I know I've posted this here before but here is an old vid I took of him getting Kronphet ready for a fight. Dude might be slicker than his old stablemate Saenchai and I've been blessed to have the pleasure of sparring them both.

Awesome, thank you!

The head of my organization was an Olympian judoka, and won several major judo tournaments in japan and Okinawa...does that count as famous?

I trained with Tom Breese who is fighting this weekend in the UFC for a few years.

I also trained with Leon Edwards who the guys in the heavies seem to rate as the no. 1 in the welterweight division.

At the time the talk I heard in the gym was that Breese was the better prospect but I thought Edwards was the harder worker to be honest.

I’ve had the pleasure of training with a lot of studs. I was at Legends gym in Hollywood (back in the early 2000’s when it was still a thing) Randy and Bas owned it. Eddie Bravo was the jiu jitsu coach there and I my Boxing coach was Jeremy Williams (world champ)... I trained with The Caesar Gracie fight team when they were in town for an elite xc event and sparred with shields, and both Diaz brothers multiple times. I also trained with mayhem and rampage daily for a handful of months. From there I moved to Boca Raton and trained with the Blackzilians when they were still at Imperial Athletics and stayed with them for a couple years through the Rashad/Jones camp and their move to Jaco training facility, Tyrone Spongs Mma tenure as well as a huge list of others. I was young and felt blessed to be sparring/wrestling/ and rolling with guys in the sport that I idolized everyday. It has been a beautiful journey.

I've trained with & sparred:
Ray Leonard
Aaron Pryor
Julio Cesar Chavez
Simon Brown
Matthew Hilton
Livingstone Bramble
Bobby Czyz
Hector Camacho
& many others.

What was Camacho like? He seemed like a bit of an odd guy.

Is it worth it?
Some famous guys are…..in sparring….

What was Camacho like? He seemed like a bit of an odd guy.

He was really cool. A bit eccentric & flamboyant but not really odd.
And he was a very nice guy too & generous to his people. He once insisted that I let him buy me a new tire for my car & he gave me gas money when I was broke when I first started sparring with him. Those are things you never forget.
