Ever Been to a chiropractor?

Yeah, I went for about 6 months because of lower back pain. I found that I felt better after I left my appointment but worse overall. At one point I started having severe back spasms in the middle of the night and I've never had one in my life. so I said fuck it and stopped going and the spasms went away. I don't think I'd go back unless I had no other choice.

Chiropractic is total unscientific bullshit. There are no studies that show it does anything. Just anecdotes from people, who generally need to go every week or every month for 'maintenence'.

I went to one guy once for a few visits. It was bullshit, the whole thing seemed super scammy and I had no relief at all.

I've been to some shit physiotherapists as well but at least that is based on science and actually works.
I wonder if most chiropractors actually believe their own bullshit

It's like accupuncture....even though they can have great success at times and relieve many people from pain, they have no clue how wrong they are. ;) Anyone in the medical field absolutely hates Chiropractors, because it takes business away from them and is contrary to the "we're going to have to cut you open" mentality that is taught in medical school. But they def have their place in the treatment business, if you have any clue about how your body works.

My neck has hurt for about a year now. So I figured I would try a chiropractor as my doctor sure can't seem to figure it out. So I went for an initial consultation. Of course he discovered "I think you need chiropractic work."

I'm thinking "Great! That's why I am here. Let's do it." He says, "We will need to take x-rays. I will schedule you to come in tomorrow at 2 PM. "

I'm thinking, "Shoot, I already had to get off work early today for this, and my neck hurts now and I really wanted to get some help, but OK I'll get off early again tomorrow and do the x-rays. then this guy can look at them and figure out what he needs to do."

So I get off work early and do the x-rays, and he says "I'll schedule you tomorrow at 2 PM and we can review these x-rays."

Im thinking, "Can't you review them right now and help with this damn neck pain?"

I say, "I can't get off of work early three days in a row. Do you have anything after 4 PM at least. "

"Unfortunately no, we close at 3 pm."

"OK well then I'll come in for a weekend appointment."

"We are not open on the weekends."

So now I have to get off early sometime next week. And I will lose my shit if we go over the x-rays and he says, "See there? that's what we need to work on. I'll schedule you for an appointment tomorrow at 2 PM."

I hope it's worth it because I've already paid for the damn X-rays and I don't want to switch to a new chiropractor who will make me jump through all the same damn hoops.

Your experiences?
You are at a guy who just wants to milk you and your insurance for money.

There are some good chiropractics out there that do a lot of physical therapy, soft tissue work and the spinal manipulation. Go to another chiro that will give you some PT and an adjustment.

Or just go to a legit PT or athletic therapist since that's all a legit Chiro will be doing anyway

I'm in Texas and you just can't go to a PT without a prescription from an MD.

? I thought in America you just pay for whatever. Or do you mean it won't be covered by your health insurance without a prescription?

Can you go to a chiro without a prescription?

For a chiro you don't need a script. For PT they need a prescription for treatment.

I've been, but not in a long time.

A buddy of mine goes to a sports chiropractor who in addition to working on his back/neck, helps him work on his lifting form which reduces the amount that he needs to go see him.

lifting, if done properly, is great at reducing back issues later on in life. having that solid core keeps your limbs from going to shit.

I find that strange.
It's the law. People on here have called me a liar. I'm not going to research it for you. I've had this argument on here already and it's the law.

I went to a Chiropractor for some back pain. She was more open to mainstream medicine. She was really pretty with a nice set of curves and very pleasant to talk to and always gave my back and neck a nice massage. I doubt it really helped out with the pain, but the sessions were therapeutic nevertheless (nothing sexual or otherwise unprofessional).

I stopped going after realizing my back really wasn't getting any better.

Neck manipulation apparently increases your risk of stroke due to a possible tear to an artery in the neck, which forms a blood clot and blocks blood flow to the brain. I don't think there's data to show what the chances of that happening are, it's probably very rare.

Try this. Hang your head off the edge of a bed, upside down. Let the gravity decompress your cervical spine. Then perform flexions and extensions and lateral facing up, down, and on the sides.

Yeah, that sounds super frustrating. A lot of chiropractors follow that “three step” model: consult, x-rays, then review, before even laying a hand on you, which can feel like a waste of time when you’re already in pain. I’ve been there too and it felt more like a sales pitch than care. If you’ve already paid for the x-rays, it might be worth sticking it out one more visit, but if they keep delaying treatment, I’d consider switching. Some chiros or even physical therapists will treat on the first visit and are way more flexible with scheduling. Hope you get relief soon.
