Eugene Bareman agrees UFC does not push Izzy as much as they should

He got his push, he’s one of the few fighters to fight for a belt in another division while still being champ of his. He lost the fight to Jan though, and tbh kind of comes off as a bit of a creepy fucker with some of the shit he does.

It’s understandable why UFC doesn’t continue to push him.

I don't think he gets any less of a push than other champions past or present. Besides, he's as unlikable as it gets and ugly to boot. Not everyone has what it takes to be a global superstar.

I agree to an extent, but I also feel like the UFC can only promote you so much and after a while it becomes clear if you’re a draw or not. But I do feel like –and yeah maybe I’m biased– that the fanbase isnt giving Izzy nowhere near the props and recognition he deserves.

Hes a kickboxer with a MMA record of 21-1, while everyone is creaming their pants over Khabibs 29-0, with the one loss being against a champ one weight-class up. Within 4 years he trailblazed through MW and won the belt, already at 3 title defenses and maybe at 4 next week, could have been at 5 if not for the Jan detour.

Not to mention that his record includes Tavares, Brunson, Gastelum, Whittaker (maybe x2 in a week), Romero, Vettori x2, Costa.

He didn't lose badly, it was a very competitive fight with neither guy able to implement significant damage. However, that alone is enough to damage Izzy's stock since he was expected to just style on Jan almost like Silva did to Forrest. It also doesn't help that Jan lost badly to Glover in his next fight.
naah it looked like jan was much much much more powerful than izzy tbh, maybe i need to rewatch it, izzy looked dominated by the end to me although not badly it seemed like there was nothing he could do to beat jan ever

Obviously Eugene is a very smart coach, but he has said so many stupid, delusional things I can't take him seriously anymore

Modern MMA fighters are all so sensitive and crave attention, they don't make em like they used to back in our day Lemur, it was a real man's man sport before

They're all so sensitive nowadays that it's hurting my feelings lol.
You're right though sir, they don't make em like they used to unfortunately.

Who are some of the guys you're talking about?

For me?
I would say Sakuraba, Fedor, Don Frye, Hunt, Bas, Rampage, Shogun, Hendo, Wandy...for that matter the entire PRIDE roster.

Then I liked Chuck, Dan Severn, liked Royce for awhile, liked Vitor etc.

Izzy should go full Floyd Mayweather heel. Dude is a natural villain but he seems committed to wanting an undying fanbase that loves him.

But he def does draw - from the numbers seen he's good for 600 - 700K buys which is fantastic in the ESPN era.

It's a two way street. Yeah ufc are promoters but these fighters need to be likeable. There will always be haters

Lol, they gave him a shot at champ-champ; probably push him too much. He is a gender fluid Nigerian that grew up in New Zealand, now lives in America and loves anime? Not exactly the stuff stars are made of. <Lmaoo> Conor didn't have any have to push him, guy was a national star before he got to the UFC packing out arenas. You cant fore people to like things or have them resonate. You get star quality or you dont.

In fairness to Izzy tho, if UFC keepin 80% of profits to 'build the brand', everyone should be a star!

At the end he was taken down and controlled, but the entire fight before the 5th round was very competitive. It took place largely on the feet.
