The hardest part of the movie for me is how they all just had British and American accents with no explanation, think that might have been what movies just did then

Good Hollywood take on Stalingrad. Not on the level of the ATG war films, though. Ed Harris,
Bob Haskins, and Ron Pearlman really made the film. 7.5\10

I remember liking it, but even then I felt it rode the coattails of Saving Private Ryan. Good flick, probably deserves a rewatch.

I also remember the British accents portraying Russians being stupid.

That scene where the commisar (?) yell at the soldiers for one person to get a rifle and another only get a grenade stayed with me when I watched it in theater. And since then, I've had the stereotypical view that Russian soldiers have been poorly equipped ingrained in me.
