End of an era: Andrei Arlovski is no longer with UFC

Put some respek on arlovski’s name.
First time I heard of ufc was one of my classmates watching his highlights in school. In his championship run in the ufc he was truly scary. Remember that one fight he slept his opponent and out nobody could even see the punch that handed, he was faster than anyone else at HW

Paul buentello.

Arlovski starching tim Sylvia was also pretty amazing way back then

I remember.

Andrei has had a long and storied career.
Anyone that's been following MMA since the early 2000's remembers him as a vicious killer. Fast, athletic and serious KO power.
After his first UFC run and those Affliction bangers, he seemed to lose something....became a careful point fighter (not to mention old). The last ten years he's looked slow and doesn't resemble the guy who won the title eons ago.
It's a shame.... Today's crop of MMA fans will never understand or know the hairy Dracula version of Andrei.

I was watching Arlovski being KO'd by Rizzo, then go on an incredible run.

I'll always remember arlovski as the guy who somehow "fixed" his chin.

Maybe I just wasn't watching carefully enough or got carried away by the narrative but I could have sworn that arlovski had a terrible chin, and got slept numerous times by weak looking punches many times in a low number of fights before somehow just turning it around, and going on to fight for another decade and a half, displaying a solid chin.

Yep. After like 5 straight KO’s when it looked like his chin was finished, he went on to face Rumble Johnson at heavyweight no less and somehow lasted to a decision while taking massive shots and getting his jaw broken

About damn time. A decade late. Even if this is old news, he mattered so little it didn't make headlines.

It really just shows you that chin comes down a lot to how you get caught and fight generally, Arlovski wasnt getting dropped by nothing punches, he was getting caught by bombs, often off balance.

The thing is though I thin Arlovski becoming a defensive Jackson style fighter basically killed any potential of him hitting the top of the sport again. He was always vunerable to upsets during his prime but I his real strenght was as a front foot fighter who depended on his very fast and powerful offence, he was never that great on the back foot, he just avoided being KOed a bit more vs lower level comp.
