End of an era: Andrei Arlovski is no longer with UFC

I liked Arlovski, he was always game to bring the fight. Quality fighter for his day. However, it is obvious he isn't making another run at the title in the Organization so moving on to another one is fine with me. Hopefully his chin has also signed with the GFL so he will get paid before the company files for chapter 11.

a legendary former champion retires from the UFC and we have fans saying “good riddance”, “not worth the money” etc

MMA fans are the worst
just wild... now I remember why I dont read the forums anymore... dude was fighting right as I was getting into the sport at 14 (34 now) and one of the first fighters I saw on a billboard before watching a card. His first fight was in fucking 1994 and he's still going...

he's been fighting in the best org for most of my life and put on some legendary fights. The amount of times people said his career was over and he followed it up with big wins is like nothing I've seen in MMA ... The guys from his era if they were fighting today would be absolutely embarrassed compared to him.

He's was said to have a glass jaw since the start of his career and he changed his style and had the best longevity of any HW maybe ever. This is a man who literally played Russian roulette after losing to Brett Rogers... He lived and breathed fighting and the disrespect from new fans who don't know his history and shitting on him is embarrassing.

I thought he was spent after the losing streak that started with stipe sometime around 2015.

He outlasted my expectations which were low when he originally left the UFC for strike force and affliction.

I'm pretty sure he's been fighting on the UFC before it was bought by zuffa.

Hopefully he enjoys retirement, more than 2 decades of consistent prize fighting is incredible.

Well.

I can understand people not wanting to see him fight anymore. He's terrible to watch now.

But I'm not blaming him or anyone. I'm glad he got money.

I wish him well

Guy had his first UFC fight in 2000. 9/11 was a year away, Tom Brady was Drew Bledsoe's backup, the WWF still had Rock and Austin and WCW was still around. Kind of insane when you think about it

He is not retiring. UFC wanted him to retire but he just fought out his contract and is fighting elsewhere.

He did not want to leave UFC, but UFC did not want to give him any more fights, since, really, the guy shouldnt be fighting anymore. I dont blame them. They wanted to give him the sendoff, but he doesnt want to stop and didnt want that.

Arlovski doesnt want to quit yet. If you want to hear the whole thing here you go

Some shertards act as if they're paying $80 to watch Arlovski fight though

You don't need to enjoy watching him fight anymore, but just be glad that the man is getting paid after the decades he put into the sport.

At one point he was the face of the UFC, especially when Japan was dominating the HW scene.

To say Arlovski wasn't worth the money is a fucking crime.

+1

Mr "Glass Jaw" outlived everyone from his era, surviving at the highest level way past his prime.

Kudos to Andrei Arlovski on a super successful career. Such longevity at HW deserves a standing ovation.

I think he served a purpose for a while, testing out the young guys.

If he beat you, that showed your ceiling was low. Even if they were bad fights they were useful.

But it got to a point where he couldnt even do that anymore. He's got very little left in the tank.

You're not wrong, but he isn't getting handed CTE on live TV at the level of Tony Ferguson either

I'm just saying its not that he is taking damage but his hit and hold style is a big chore to get through at this stage. No one wants to see that. It's def time for him to go, unfortunate as that is.

He did mention that, but it been months and we havent heard anything. Both guys should not be fighting anymore.
:(

It would be the biggest Boxing Sub RBR since Conor vs Floyd

Again, you're not wrong - but I really wish it was up to Arlovski to decide when he wanted to retire.

At least he deserved that much after his illustrious career. A tribute at least. WAY more deserving than Karate Hottie.

And like I said, it's not like he was getting beat up badly on live TV the way Tony Ferguson's been getting it
