Jiri Prochazka was overwhelmed by the title win of the only man to put him away in the Octagon.

Prochazka took on Khalil Rountree at UFC 320 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday. After dropping the first two rounds, “BJP” staged a miraculous comeback to knock Rountree out in the third. Prochazka was present cageside when Alex Pereira looked to regain his light heavyweight title against Magomed Ankalaev in the main event. Pereira walked Ankalaev down from the opening bell, dropped him and landed vicious ground-and-pound, forcing referee Herb Dean to step in at 1:20 of the first round.

Prochazka was seen tearing up while celebrating Pereira’s win, although “Poatan” is the only man to have knocked him out in the UFC. Prochazka subsequently revealed that he was rooting for Pereira due to his animosity towards Ankalaev. The Czech didn’t like Ankalaev’s trash talk in recent months when there were talks of a possible fight between the two. Prochazka further said that he and his team recently had a conversation with Pereira’s long-term coach and mentor, Glover Teixeira, and things are very friendly between the two groups. Prochazka has been stopped twice in failed title bids against Pereira. However, Prochazka remains hopeful about a trilogy fight, where he aims to “win or die.”

Prochazka: Everybody Knows I Don’t Like Ankalaev

While Prochazka is waiting in contention, Carlos Ulberg, who established himself as a contender by knocking out Dominick Reyes last weekend, was also in attendance at UFC 320.

“Ankalaev pissed me [off] a lot on Twitter. So everybody knows I don’t like him,” Prochazka said on ESPN. “Because he just wrote some bulls—t about me. But I’m really happy that Alex won. Maybe you don’t believe me, but I believe I will find a way for Alex. As you saw the fight, there was a pressure from Alex. And in my last fight with Khalil, I really understand I need the pressure.

As fun as Jiri can be to watch. The problem isn't just that he lost twice, but he got finished twice. If the last one had gone the distance he'd have a much better case to make. As it stands he definitely shouldn't be next up and I have serious doubts if he should ever get a third shot at Alex. Personally I'd rather see Alex move up rather than fight Jiri again.

Why do you care about rematches??? Let them fight 7 times if they want to... Like they should let Pereira leave into HW, but if he wants to fight Jiri for 3rd time, simply let them...

Like only one other with any claim on title shot is Ulberg, or more like Duckberg after how dirty he ducked Jiri. Most embarrasing duck in loong time...

It was really weird to see one dude happy for another dude who's already beaten you twice and may eventually have to get your ass kicked again from. I like Jiri, and despite his less-than-stellar fight IQ at times, I do think he's quite intelligent as a person. Kind of sucked watching Khalil lose, but they're both fighters at heart for sure.

Prochazka looked impressive in his last few wins, but he’s already fought Pereira, oiktwice, and really had nothing for him…

I know the fight would probably end in another brutal finish, at Prochazka’s expense, but the fight doesn’t really interest me…

I would much rather see a fresh matchup like follow Ulberg…

You're focusing on the wrong thing. This is not about re-matches it's about compelling content. I have and did happily watch Lawler vs. MacDonald II, Holloway vs. Poirier II, etc. Jiri vs Alex III is not a compelling fight to me when we've seen it twice before with a definitive unambiguous end both times. Right now Tom Aspinall vs Arman Ashimov would be more interesting than that for a third time.

As for why I care, it's two fold - I want new and interesting match ups and fighters have a very limited shelf life compared to other sports. This ain't the NFL with a 17 game per year minimum or the NBA with a 82 game min. Instead we have a fighter that generally has three matches per year. He's also 38 years old in a sport where people generally say your peak ends at 35. IF we're extremely lucky we have a handful of fights left in his career. Why wouldn't I want that to be spent on new competition?

He was crying cause he knew he wouldn't get a title shot. Nobody is clamoring to see him get ko'd a 3rd time.

Well, look. I myself dont want to see 3rd fight between them right now. Buuut Ulberg should not get title shot after duck like this. Best scenario for LHW would be Pereira vs Jones in LHW. Jiri vs Ulberg for next TS. Meanwhile Ankalaev waits out or fights Roundtree... but what are odds...

Ulberg vs Poatan is understandable only if UFC do Jiri vs Ankalaev for next TS...but i doubt Ulbergs ts. Duck was simply too embarassing and UFC like to punish their staff for stuff like this...

Huge respect for both guys, Jiri really does see what a beautiful story it is for alex to win his title back and silence all the haters after the whole world turned on him.

this was HIS izzy vs alex 2. He pulled his legacy out of the fire in style

Because in reality MMA doesn't work like that. These guys have a limited time in the sport and there's a whole top 10 to juggle simultaneously. We can't afford constant trilogies, quadrilogies, and so on. It forces other fighters to wait. This is why I believe we should stop having such quick rematches. Also, and perhaps the biggest downside, two back to back losses almost ensures you don't get another chance until there's a new champ if at all.

I don't believe Jiri.

I think he was crying because he knows he's unlikely to get another shot at Alex. So he wanted Ank to win so he could get another title shot.

He probably does like Alex though so he was being a good sport and clapping for him, but inside he knew that his title shot just got further away.
