The Federal Reserve Act was passed by congress and signed into law by the president. They have a large degree of independence because it is recognized that monetary policy should not be influenced by short-term political considerations, but the long-term prosperity of the country as a whole. The people in charge have the relevant expertise in the area, they report to congress, are audited by the GAO, and send all of their profits to the U.S. Treasury.

This is not comparable in any way to what's taking place with Elon.

Good enough but I'd still rather have an independent person to the auditing for the US government. Same as if the FED would be audited as well as a local police department. And I agree there's no comparison. The FED has complete control over our economy and money supply while Elon is just doing an audit

The Fed does not have complete control over our economy. The Fed controls monetary policy. Fiscal policy - spending and taxing - is controlled by the executive and legislative branches. It's why Trump was able to pass his tax cuts in 2017 and give hundreds of billions in free money to corporations, helping to fuel inflation.

And Elon very clearly is going far beyond a simple audit. Not that he even knows how to do an actual audit in the first place.

Call me a tinfoil hat guy, but I don’t think Mon government employees should be given access to millions of personnel files without some sort of vetting process, oversight, and safety net in place. They have access to millions of people’s SS#, dob, and anything else they could need for massive identity theft.
