Elections Elon officially backing away from Trimp due to sinking profits

Everything I've seen this dude do gives me the impression that he's self-obsessed and wants to make everything about him, except this time it's making him look like an idiot.
Ultimately though he thought he could help imo. He definitely does think he can do it all. He runs 3 companies and also analyzing govt stuff. Ultimately when the pendulum swings everything goes back to the way it was. If he made a mistake it was that. Waste in the govt is how people get rich and how these favors are done with no backlash. To think that the people in the govt want to improve transparency and remove waste is the mistake. They don't.

Perhaps because it's a rougher road than he thought and he really isn't needed for day to day anyway. Others do the leg work. But ultimately it's not just him. It's his company and those that work directly and indirectly for Tesla. I can only speculate. But those that thought this was an easy path were just blowing smoke. When vast majority of your customers are on the left and the risks of retaliation and investigation when the pendulum swings are present... I think his intentions were to help. Its better just to have friends in the govt than to be tied to one party or the other if your goal is just to make money. Lobbyists make friends on both sides to get what they want. Thats the easier path. Noone knows the names of lobbyists but they make a whole lot of money off of the govt.

Maybe you're an optimist and that's good but I think your thinking is a bit naïve. The richest guy comes in to the government says "I want to help cut government waste and improve efficiency." Yet the same companies he is in charge of is only as big as it is because of government subsidies. The same guy who thinks Social Security is a Ponzi Scheme. You say he wanted to help and please correct me if I am wrong but were any of those forms of waste and efficiency he found tied to things the richest of Americans could help with because I did not hear anything?

I find it strange that all the inefficiencies and cost savings he could find was tied to poorer Americans or things that are done overseas. Plus all Musk wants to do is basically privatize anything he can within the government which is basically the whole point and people are on board with it which confuses me. America has been on the fast track to privatizing anything it can and conservatives cheer it. Yet anyone could argue by doing that America has gotten worse over the past 50 years.

But you don't need all of that. As I mentioned, people make billions off of the govt and have no real involvement. The stuff on SS etc are all under congress to make changes etc. Plus it all goes back with regime change. Again, he could make a ton just having friends like what lobbysists do to get their bank. Its the easy way to remain in the shadows and get whatever you want with the govt.

Don't need all of what? I don't quite follow. The way I interpret it is the richest guy in the world has friends in the government and yet for all the inefficiencies he has found none of it is tied to the richest Americans? The argument you seem to be making is government is bad and getting rich off of it which is true (i.e. Pelosi, Taylor-Greene) and yet none of all the bad things happening is tied to the same group Elon is apart of which is the richest class of Americans? That does not make sense when Elon is bankrolling campaigns.

Also, there's this argument that you made that people make billions off the government. One of the best ways to do that is through privatization. Governments routinely send money out to privatized business and it constantly does not make things better (i.e. For Profit Prisons). Also, it makes no sense. A guy that runs 3 companies somehow has time to find government waste? Does that make sense to anyone? Plus why would the richest guy in the world want to help the poorest Americans? Elon is inconsistent. I need government subsidies to help run and expand my businesses but taxes to help pay for Social Security is a scam.

Eh I don't think he was ever in it to make profits. Getting deeply involved into politics isn't smart for business, you're alienating a % of voters, why take that risk.

Because he lives in a twitter bubble where half the remaining user base worships him.

He's also been extremely political for the last 4 years and has had a few controversial moments along the way but it never adversely affected his businesses.

Between those two things, he probably genuinely thought that what he was doing was popular and that his businesses would be largely unaffected by the "minority" of people opposed.

His net worth basically doubled right after the election so that probably further emboldened him.

Hasn't this been repeatedly debunked as it is people who are in the database, not people who are in the database AND receiving checks? A quick Google check reveals dozens of 'it's not true' articles.

Yes, there are multiple articles debunking this and the YT video nonoob posted is odd considering the commentators are calling the government lazy when if FOX Business had done some research for 10 minutes this would have been a non story but hey gotta kill time on tv with something I guess.

I work on databases for Governments (not in the US). I'd find it utterly astonishing if what is said is true; it's so hard to believe it beggars belief. It is, however, a certainty that errors are made, but of this magnitude my 'bullshit' meter goes off the charts.

To put it simply, we won't really know since the story is largely dead and buried. But Musk has proven too often to be a liar, with two specific cases that have eroded my trust such that I just don't believe him anymore.

1. His claims to be a world leading gamer for internet cred. Why would you make up something like this as an adult? What's wrong with him?
2. His claim that the Government doesn't use SQL, which is by far the most common database querying language. It's patently untrue.

#2 is especially damning. I don't think he actually knows fuck all about this if he claims 'the whole Federal Goverment doesn't use SQL'.

Putting two and two together - one, the absurdity of the proposition based on my real world experience (it's my career) and two, the absurdity of the person making the claim, I'm inclined to believe the dozens of articles shooting this down.

I think he saw an opportunity to gather support and profit from libertarians and conservatives, but he traded in all his liberal chips to seal the deal, and has come up short with the libertarians and America First guys, and now only has the MAGAs

You don't need direct involvement with the govt to make money off of the govt or garner favors. Govt isn't all bad but def shady stuff goes on. Few disagree with this on any side. The contracts that he cancelled stopped someone from getting richer. And he is only overseeing finding waste. He's not at the computers everyday. He has people for that.

You think Elon did this because he wanted to help Americans? Yeah, I'm going to have to strongly disagree with this take, my friend.

It's impossible to say what a man's true motivation is. That he keeps to himself. But he has a much easier path playing both sides like most of the lobbyists and influencers do it. There's absolutely no need for all of this to get what you want from the government. All you need are Insiders. A previous company that I worked for had a new regulation placed on it by the Texas legislature. They asked me to try and get an exemption. I could not get anyone to answer other than this is the way it is now from any of the government groups. I was put in touch with a lobbyist through a friend. I immediately got meetings with government leadership LOL. And they agreed that our product was outside of the regulation. It really showed me how easy it is if you have the connections to get things done.

Didn't Elon gut a few agencies that had active investigations into his companies and him? He also was privy to tons of very sensitive data. Elon was in a VERY good position with DOGE being able to root around in our gov't. There were several conflicts of interests. This all tracks with Elon's past behavior.

I don't know as far as your first comment. But ultimately it's useless as trumps time is temporary and even congress may change in a couple of years. Plus Trump's cabinet can put a stop to any departmental investigation if that's the goal.

The conflict of interest is there simply because he has govt contracts but if he touched those or blocked competition it wouldn't remain hidden forever and congress will eventually come for him. There is no need to risk all of that. Whatever he did will be scrutinized especially if there is a congressional shift. Ultimately anything that he can get done to help himself is better off being done with a hands-off approach having someone else do the dirty work.
