To be racist is to hold someone as lesser to you solely because of their race, AND to be antagonistic towards them. There is no non hateful way to be racist.

If you're singing the n word in a song, that is behaviour indicative of racism but could also be indicative of general ignorance of questionable social dynamics. You shouldn't do it regardless because as an adult you should have enough brain cells to understand the meaning behind intentionally saying that word.

However, if you go up to a black person and intentionally use it that antagonistic context, yes, that is both racist and hateful. You are using a slur meaning they are less than human with the belief that it is true and intention to relay that. You understand what saying it in that context means and choose to do so regardless. That is hateful.

I personally don't say it. Most of my folks don't say it. I discourage other black people from saying it. Unfortunately, its part of the culture and will likely remain that way for some time. I will not defend that behavior just as I will not seperate racism from hatfulness.

I work in the music industry, almost everyone I know from that part of my life could be considered far left. The ones that aren't are the ones who are smart enough to keep their mouth shut, the ones that aren't but decide to voice an opposing opinion will be shut out.

I definitely keep a very politically mixed group of friends and associates so I probably don't attack the far leaning crowd
