Elizabeth Warren Releases DNA Test Showing "Strong Evidence" of Native American Ancestry

That's not what I was calling pathetic. I think it's totally normally to believe your parents stories, and I don't doubt her mom was being genuine. The pathetic part is playing that type of distant ancestry up throughout her life in various ways. She wrote Cherokee next to her name in a cookbook called "Pow Wow Chow Chow."

That's embarrassing. If you think you're 1/32 Italian, you don't submit Italian recipes and lable yourself as an Italian.
Whatever, I would care more if I thought it mattered.

A lot of white guys claim to be Irish-American, or Italian-Americam and claim cultural heritage on St. Patrick's Day or go to Irish pubs or whatever.

They're plastic Paddy's.

So what?

Why are we more concerned over Elizabeth Warren's claim of Cherokee ancestry?

Yeah I have very little doubt that she is probably running. This DNA thing is just a crazy move. It would be like Trump suddenly putting out a commercial saying 'Hey guys, remember that whole grab em by the pussy thing? I just want to reiterate once again, that I didn't mean anything by that. Carry on.'
It is spectacularly stupid. The doubling down is fucking amazing. Should have just said it’s an old family story which I guess has been exaggerated. I mean even the commercials show people finding out their dna doesn’t match the family story

Just maybe because she is a prominent politician, not some drunkard that dresses up like McGregor on St. Paddy's day.

It's not only that she claims Cherokee ancestry, it's the fact that she has told elaborate stories about her parents running away to be together because her father's family didn't like the fact that her moter was of Cherokee ancestry.

She also has "high cheek bones"...

I agree, and I mocked the, "I'm Italian!" 1/16 Italians multiple times in this thread. I think it's all goofy and pathetic. I'm not viciously attacking Warren, I'm just making fun of her.

I feel a bit bad for her, she seemed to genuinely embrace this idea that she was Cherokee, and I feel like she's probably very embarrassed about it now. I don't think she was trying to be a bad person or anything.

Because Irish-American is not a favored group in the racial diversity industry.
Which would be relevant if Warren ever got any "preferential treatment" or "minority status." But she hasn't. Administrator after administrator at UPenn, Harvard, and other places have lined up saying they never heard anyone suggest or consider Warren as a "minority candidate" for any position-- whatever it said in her yearbook or cookbook or whatever the fuck I'm supposed to care about.

Is the irony lost on no one that I'm not supposed to care about the shit Kavanaugh wrote in his year book, but I'm supposed to be all bothered by Warren submitting a freaking recipe to a cookbook?

It's her family story that she heard as a kid. So what? Are you saying she is making it up? Or that she is wrong for repeating what she was told? What's your point?

I think my main issue at this point is she's pretending this is a win and wont just come out and say that she's clearly not native american and let everyone move on from this. Doubling down because your 1/512-1/1024 native american which could end up being lower than the average american just makes you look stubborn.

If this was me I would have released the results and said my mothers stories were either exaggerated or I misunderstood them. Something a long those lines. Which would be much more believable.

I really hope Trump takes a DNA test to prove he's more native than Warren. Would be a classic Trump troll move.

You can also just embrace a culture-- whether or not you have some "blood claim." I don't see the big deal. I play Irish and Scottish music in a band. No one required a DNA test from me.

If Warren had tried to claim tribal membership status and get preferential "minority treatment" based on that-- this might be a thing that matters. But she didn't, so it's not.

I'm sure the results are being processed as we speak.

I thought it was 1/32?

A couple of agencies within the Federal Government and all tribes hire based on Indian preference. There are numerous grants and scholarships available specifically for tribal members. There are many tribal colleges in the US that offer tuition-free (or very close to free) courses to tribal members.

That might not be something Warren would use, but there are many who would claim the heritage to take advantage of those opportunities . . .

Ahh, nothing like waking up to a classic shitpost from the president.

Gonna be a great day!

Sure. But it's not something Warren ever did. So what the fuck are we talking about?

Pics or GTFO.

It doesn't look like she got preferential treatment, but the lawsuit against Harvard for racially discriminating against Asians just opened yesterday. There certainly seem to be a lot of illegal racial discriminatory practices in Ivy League schools. That's the context of her claims. The pressure on Ivy League schools to racially diversify was tremendous in the late 80s and through the 90s. Warren got all the benefits of white privilege throughout her upbringing and education clear up until she hit a spot where being minority was more useful. And for a decade she became a minority. When she became a politician and being white was useful again, she dropped her minority status, which was easy because it was bogus.

And it is undeniable that it earned her minority status. She was listed as having minority status in ten straight editions of the Association of American Law Schools Directory. She was celebrated as Harvard's first woman of color professor. You know what got Warren the most attention and most praise during the decade she taught law? Not her scholarship, her assumed identity as a racial minority. And someone else deserved that praise more than Warren did. Some black girl had to fight through bad schools and racial prejudice to finally make it to the top only to find that one of the whitest women in America got credit for getting there first.

If you think racial diversity is important and laudable, then what Warren did was blameworthy.

This is just not true.

Warren always claimed native American heritage informally, but never did so formally (on any application or in any job interview or in any place where it would have conferred some personal "advantage").

Also, her legal scholarship and teaching is distinguished on it's own merits. I suggest you listen to the actual people from Harvard, UPenn, U of Texas describing the scenario, because it is the opposite of what you say.

Relevant @2:15

I think it's pretty telling that her camp released this. They just knew that the mainstream media (besides Fox)would carry water for her and say it "bolsters" or gives "strong evidence" to her claims. Even though she apparently has less Native blood in her than the average white American lmao. The Cherokee nation coming out and taking a big steaming shit all over her was perfect, you couldn't make up this stuff. I swear, politics has always been somewhat of a circus but ever since you guys elected a literal clown your politics has been the greatest show on Earth.
