No Spoilers Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

Anyone have some recommendations for a good rot/bleed setup? I’m using Euporia right now which is awesome but I feel like status effects are going to be key to beating the last boss and I can’t buff it with anything.

Yeah I have no idea who any of those people are lol. I fought Messmer but haven't found Bayle yet.

Can you really keep your scadu fragments in ng+? I guess it makes sense since it's just another leveling system. But that would also mean those who went into the dlc in ng+6 would be way underleveled in terms of scadu, unless it maxes out at +20.

It caps at +20 for you and +10 for spirit ashes. You keep the levels when you reset ng+, which means if you finished the last boss at +17 or so you don't need to hunt down the last few fragments you can just add a level of ng+ and you'll be at 20 early on in the dlc content for your second time through.

Fingerprint shield with occult for 100% physical block, antspur rapier with bleed or blood cross naginata are my go-to pokers. Antspur is the way to poke while blocking and get both bleed and rot to build up. Naginata has more range, more bleed, no rot.

Antspur sounds really interesting. Rot, bleed and poison potentially?

Today was Messmer day and today the fucker fell!

I got up to +10 scadutree blessings, so I was able to survive his first couple of shots if I didn't dodge fast enough after summoning my mimic.

I still died about 10 times, and two of those he died as well. I've had that happen in the last second of a boss fight (his general on that fat steed), though the boss always died permanently, but not that cunt!

One of those was a solo run too. I was so pissed off I brought in the Horns guy and we finished him off pretty handily.

Right now I'm hunting optional bosses, and I'm where some skeletons are below the blue flower coast area. Those snake balled laser snipers were brutal, but the skeleton riding some animal boss is far worse.

Miyazaki is a Masochist lol

Finished the final boss after almost 3 hours. Ridiculously overtuned. Crazy how just like in the base game they end it with such a terrible boss fight. Still overall enjoyed the DLC just wish the boss quality matched the map quality.

Killed Messmer second attempt but to be fair I've beaten him a few times as a summon in other people games and after the tree he didn't feel bad at all. Off to bed!

Romina was an absolute CUNT for me. Seriously, it took me so many attempts. An awful boss for my style.

The only boss I’ve really enjoyed so far is Renalla. Mesmer was ok, and not been a fan of the rest.

Last night got new ashes Spider Scorpion. Was excited and thought it fun to have this guy at my six. P4P most garbage ash, lol. Does maybe chip DMG to even base-game mobs. This is the stuff From does that has me scratching my head. All the expansion incantations and spells go so soft too.

Almost all the WPNs have been 10/10 killer, though. My two faves have been the Curseblade's Cirque backblade and the Shadow Sunflower Blossom (multi-strike headbutt special skill is so fun and great at catching evaders).

If I had to tier the bosses it would look something like this

Good: Rellana, Gaius, Putrescent Knight, Midra

Almost Good: Dancing Lion, Messmer, Romina

Bad: Scadutree Avatar, Bayle, Metyr, Radahan

Romina was probably my favorite. Very close to bring really good, just need to fix her hitboxes a bit. The problem is the ones that are bad are so bad they really drag down the entire experience of the DLC and end up being more memorable for being so bad than the good one are for being good.

Out of them, I have only gotten to

Dancing Lion(bad/Frame rate on bite attacks)
Renalla(good/Balanced and visually appealing)
Messmer(Ok/second phase hard to track)
Romina(Bad to ok/ second phase too much time in the air, and hard to track up close
Putrescent Knight(Just started)

I must have missed that Gaius dude. The map design has me very confused in many places. Will eventually need to look up how to get certain places. Will say, subjectively, that this is not my favorite Souls dlc by far. Objectively, I can see why many would absolutely love it.

I just found Gaius. The path to him is a major section of the dlc that I totally missed originally. I believe it also leads to two other areas but haven't explored them yet.

Interesting.

Just beat Romina before work, so I now have some new ground to cover. I take it you could get to him BEFORE Romina, yes? I actually got to Romina before Messmer, and Renalla before the Lion guy, so I like that aspect of the DLC. Not a straight shot to anything. Just hard for me to tell where leads to what, and the map is basically useless a lot of the time.

Can't remember the path to Romina tbh or if it's tied to Gaius at all. The map is so confusing because of its verticality.

Messed with a couple of builds with Radahn last night for a little bit. I don’t think there’s any way to justify not being able to fast roll for me. I was really digging Antspur, getting three different status effects on him was nice and I was able to get him to his second phase consistently. I also tried using Bloodfiend’s Arm, I wish I would have used this thing way earlier in my play through. It’s absolutely ridiculous how quickly bleed procs. Might be too slow for Radahn but a very cool weapon.

I think I’ll stick with maneuverability and status effects. I think even going back to Falling Stars would be a good move. Hopefully I get more time to dive in to the fight soon.

God damn Abyssal Woods.

Hey kids, remember Winter Lanterns?! They’re back! And this time they’re invincible and we don’t give you sedatives! Fun, amirite?
I’m not sure if there are other methods but their little wand attack is parryable which makes them then killable.

Gotcha. I don't remember how I got anywhere really... Just wander around the edges of the map until I cannot go further, and go from there. Only place I remember finding was the abyssal woods because I took a coffin to some river, and went south and down. I like the scenery, it just doesn't stick in my brain how to get anywhere. Have to fast travel all the time, because like you mentioned, the verticality of the map has me turned around all the time. Still fun though.
